Newhire Training Footprint?
Hey all- just wondering if someone that's recently gone through the new hire process could shed some insight on a "typical" training schedule.. Indoc/systems/sims etc. I know it likely varies considerably, but I'd just like to have a basic idea. Thanks!

Indoc mon-fri, home for weekend, Indoc mon-thurs. Off 3 weeks. 20 training days for 737 initial paired in 5 on 2 off. Went home on all days off.

What Paok said.
To pile on: - the "3 weeks" will vary based on fleet / sim availability; I think the contract guarantees you 1 week (for self-study ground school), though I've heard that's been waived (at pilot's discretion) when a pop-up training slot opens - you get positive space to/from training for all breaks over 48 hours - company picks up the hotel for indoc; you're on your own for training, unless it's not at ATL (eg, MIA) Congrats, & welcome aboard! |
Thanks guys! Looking forward to starting early in December!

Does anyone know from the past; for classes that start the first week of December (so finishing Indoc mid-Dec), do you typically have off all the way through the holidays? In other words, would they have you start systems within a few days of Christmas, give you just a couple days off around the 25th, then continue with sims around New Years?
My wife is due on November 17 and I'm trying to figure out if I should defer to a January class or just take the December class, knowing I would then have a good stretch of days off around the holidays to restart training in ATL after the new year... |
Delaying a class for the Holidays would be a colossal mistake, IMO.
Delaying for the birth of your child may well be "worth it" (only you can decide), but, it sounds like either way your bundle of joy will be here before your class date, so you're really considering time at home. How good a support system do you have in place for your wife & new arrival? Congratulations, both on the new job & (more important!) new baby! |
Yeah I wouldn't do it for holidays off only, but mostly just to have enough time at home to help out and be with the baby. We have a 2 year old already so we're expecting this one to be a bit more challenging, and leaving for 2 months straight (I know there's some days off here and there but still) would be pretty hard.

I think everyone in Dec class would have holidays off. Do we even train on the holidays? I'm due this week and my husband is in the pool, sending him ASAP. Seniority is everything. I'll manage at home w the baby. My guess is Dec 5 will start systems/sims after the new year.
