Short call seniority
My understanding of short call is that it goes to yellow slips requesting it then in seniority order (barring any rest issues). If I'm assigned short call and there is someone junior to me on long call and they're coming off of an X day, how is this legal by the contract? They're junior, no rest issues, they have less short call credit in the month, a lower raw score and aren't "full" for the month. Is there anything to prevent this or is it at schedulings will to do what they want?

Scheduling pretty much does what they want with SC - yes, there are some restrictions but there is a lot more going on than we see. Sometimes pilots have rest issues that prevent SC, sometimes they are going into Golden Days off so they can't be used, sometimes because they are coming off a X day they can't start SC until 10am, so they need you for earlier. Etc etc.
Every time I've called to ask why did X happen or Y, there is always a reasonable answer that leaves me with my original assignment. |
And like you said, they had a reasonable answer when I asked. Junior person goes into a golden day the next day. Not sure why they couldn't use them 1200-0000 since they're using me 1500-0300, but oh well.

If the next day is golden he's released at 1200 regardless of whether or not he's on LC or SC.
To be more precise, that is only true if you are not otherwise used. They can absolutely give you a trip from LC or SC that blocks in at, say, 2200 - two hours before a golden day starts. Ask me how I know... Having said that, SC doesn't normally make a whole lot of sense for someone going into a Golden Day, since they are automatically released at 1200 if not used - unless they put you on SC at 0300. Again, ask me how I know. |
