MacBook purchase

Time for a new laptop, and have been shopping at OWC for a refurb. But, I figured my Delta buds would know the best price, at the right place to buy. So....ideas???
Thanks in advance.

Oh, currently looking at a 13" Macbook Pro, i5, 2.5GhZ processor, 16GB RAAM, 500G hard drive, $849.00

chuck416 11-09-2016 12:05 PM

Go to Delta perks and then Apple. They have a link to the Refurb site where you get a additional discount as a Delta employee.

B&H Photo is a good place to start.

Appleinsider(dot)com has a good buying matrix listing current best deals (including Apple Support, if you want it). In general, B&H Photo provides fantastic and professional service and support, with no tax unless you ship within NY.

...but, also, as Sailing mentioned, try Delta's coporate rate thru Delta Perks, it's often about 6%-ish off list price, which is a deal in Apple-land. I don't believe you get an additional discount on top of the Delta discount, just the refurb deal, which is great

Also look at the bottom of the Delta-Apple site for refurbished section, Apple usually has excellent deals on equipment a generation, or two (or three) older, fully refurbished, full-up warrantee. Kinda like buying a Certified Pre-Owned car, but better, since it's been remanufactured with full fresh battery, etc.

Best deal of the emp discount that I see is 6% off, which barely covers taxes, in GA. Hadn't heard of the B&H Photo. Much thanks!

Re: Mac

I have owned Macs and PCs. I have come to the conclusion that I can buy two or three PCs for the price of a Mac and update computers every three years and not have near the compatibility issues. It just depends what you are going to use it for.

I've had my Mac since 2008 and it's still running strong. I have been looking at the cost of buying a PC every few years as well...I just can't get past how quickly they become bogged down and slow. This mac is as fast as the day I bought it in 2008. How are the new windows, wrt to speed...and do they stay fast?

LOL exactly. Windows sucks.

OWC appears to have the best prices. They are a Mac refurb specialist. I have dealt with them before, but it's been a while. For the most part, the MacBook Pro is bulletproof. But, I know factually that it is not impervious to spillage of a full cup of coffee right onto the keyboard. Don't ask how I know.....

Years ago, somebody told me "...back up your hard drive, because someday, and that day is coming, you will be very glad you did..."
He was right. And I am SOOOO glad I took his advice.
Words of those wiser than me.....
"back up your hard drive, you will be glad that you took the time to do so".

If you are a Reservist or military retiree, the AAFES Black Friday ad has $300 off the MacBook Air with 256G drive. Only a few weeks away.

And if you have the ability to bid through Portland, you can order the new computer through the Delta Perks website and pick it up sales tax-free at the Pioneer Square store.

Contact AAPL directly and ask about refurbs along with your airlines (potential) discount. Brand new case, screen, keyboard and battery. Same warranty. Less bucks. What's not to like?

I bought my (home) PC a year ago and its already constipated. F that.

My travel MacBookAir (A 2011 CraigsList special from several years ago) is still as fast as the day I bought it. From stone cold to surfing the web (in a new location - new wifi login) in a minute. I'll never buy a PC again.

Good luck with whatever you buy.

You can also just walk into the Apple store in Portland and get a Delta discount with your ID. And, no sales tax.

Also offer a military discount if your a veteran..... seems to fluctuate on the product though, not a straight percentage.
