$27 Million Dollar ALPA Surplus In 2016

According to this months ALPA magazine we have a $27 million dollar surplus in 2016.

Given the wage increases at Delta, UAL, FedEx and across the regionals, we need to act immediately to reduce our union dues to 1%.

Ask yourself what are ALPA National's top 5 goals?

Lobbying money is from the PAC.

1% is way more money than is required.

Couldnt agree more. Obviously, ALPA has more money than it needs. ALPA, reduce our dues now.

ALPA national tried to reduce our dues. They even had a resolution at the BOD a couple of years ago with a dues reduction on it, but unfortunately the United and FDX reps voted against a dues reduction. Next time you see one of your United or FDX buddies ask them why their reps flipped flopped on a dues reduction?

The effort needs to continue. If this is a BOD level effort, they only meet once a year. (or maybe once every two years, I'm sure someone can clarify) There needs to be cross carrier coordination well in advanced to build consensus. Let your reps know this is your desire and to focus on making contact with other carriers and discussing it.

Don't let the momentum of the bureaucracy overwhelm us again. Contact can be made at any and all levels. Members, LEC reps, committee members etc. not just the MEC chairman. The silo effect of the national union works for the bureaucrats in Herndon, not you. The members are going to have to make the change. Grass roots efforts to carry this up the chain as well via council resolutions are a must.

Bingo.

Meanwhile a number of the deposed on here tried to blame it on Bartels...

I don't know whether or not Bartels opposed a dues reduction, or worked behind the scenes to kill it, but he has less than 1000 votes out of about 50k at the BOD. The big movers in killing the dues reduction were United and FDX. Why United and FDX flip flopped is up to those reps to explain.

Our DALPA leaders need to put forward a pathway to achieving 1% dues by January 1st 2020.

If we want to attract the American and Southwest pilots, national has to get their house in order.

Would ending the MCF improve our bargaining position? After all is the Association has no assets then if an Airline sues ALPA (ala AA vs. APA) no way to collect.

Unless the court orders a assessment or long term structured payment. Same result either way. Your dues goes up.
