West Coast Layover; LAX, SFO

This part of the forum should be the most interesting part but seems to be the least lively. Come on Peeps lets hear some great layover (or under) stories.

I think I've forgotten more than I remember. In SFO if you're anywhere near downtown, there is the wharf. Street cars can get you there. If you have enough time, go out to Alcatraz. We had a long layover but were stuck at the airport, bus service ain't too bad. Just be careful where you get off.

We stay at the Hilton on Ofarrell Street. There's this great little Irish pub across the street, the bar tenders are right off the boat from Ireland, and the Guinness draugh is just as creamy as a milk shake. Plenty of restaurants and entertainment (even adult, if you're into that.)

If your dineing on the warf of SFO the best place for seafood is SCOMAS. Tucked behind the warf the food is fantastic. They have about 4 signiture dishes but the one that sticks in my head is a seaffod dish that has clams, musscles, lobster, and other stuff all on a bed of pasta.

For those that are not fond of the seafood lover in you,,,, then try IZZY'S. A steakhouse not far from the warf. Reasturant is located in what looks like an english pub layout. Meat is outstanding. You will not go away hungry from either of these two places.

Gee now I'm hungry.......guess I better bid a SFO layover......;)

LAX, if you can pick up the free trolley at Century blvd, check out Manhattan Beach. Lots of good restaurants and good scenery hanging out there. Especially on a weekend or during the after work hours on the strand.

San Francisco

--Tadich Grill, near the end of the California St. cable car line (140 years in business)

--Rent a bike and cross the Golden Gate bridge

--Take a boat ride over to Sausalito

--Visit the "Jeremiah O'Brian" liberty ship and the WWII submarine down at the Wharf

--Ghirardelli Square has an awesome ice cream parlor (frequent waiting lines)

In-N-Out for me!

Left coast..... anywhere where there is a In-N-out burger nearby!

If you have not stopped by do so, they only sell 3 hot items:

1) Hamburger
2) Cheeseburger
3) Fries

Great example of an American Icon.
All fresh made (after) you order it.

I forgot about In-N-Out! Excellent place, they're in Nevada too (RNO and LAS). They also have shakes--very good ones! Do you know if there are there any in Oregon or Washington?

For crews staying near LAX hotels with limited time: There's 2 restaurants on both ends of spectrum near thresholds of 2 diiferent runways. There's an 'N and Out Burger near 24R , Sepulveda Blvd( picture of landing A380 was taken around there). Then there's the "Proud Bird", near 25R, Aviation Blvd & 111th. PB has an "O Club" kinda look, with several replicas of WWI- thru jet age (Mostly WW2 aircraft) around the building. They have an extensive lunch buffet spread. Several aviation photos adorn walls, and showcases.
