Default LAX In-N-Out burgers

For those of you that have a long sit at LAX, I thought I would post instructions on how to quickly get to and from LAX to the IN-N-Out Burger that sits under the approach path to 24R in LAX.

If you head out to ground transportation, you can hop on the Parking Spot shuttle. There are two Parking Spot locations, so you need to get on the correct van. The location you want is called SEPULVEDA. The other location is called Century. (Do not get on the Century van)

The van ride from LAX to the Parking Spot location is about 5 minutes. The van ride is free. The IN-N-Out Burger is located directly next to the Parking Spot parking garage. The van drivers know that airport employees ride on them just to get lunch and they don't seem to mind at all. In fact, the last time I did this, the driver said "enjoy lunch" as I got off the van. The IN-N-Out is a terrific place to watch arrivals and departures. There is a small park across the street that a great place to hang out if you have a long sit at LAX and want to burn some time.

It works great, just make sure you each tip the driver a $1 so that they continue to be cool with it. If everybody starts stiffing them, they will end that quick.

You can walk over also. As you exit the terminals head for those colored post things with the giant flag in the middle. Then you just turn left on Sepulvada till you reach In and Out its less than a mile.

It's about a 30 minute walk from the terminal. Go a little farther north on Sepulveda and there is a Trader Joe's and several other restaurants. The Wacky Wok has some great quickie asian food. There are several Mexican places nearby also.

Watch out for the Wacky Wok. It has a nice big B in the front window. They've gotten a B two of their last three inspections.

I've never understood the fascination with In-N-Out. Aside from the fact they use some high quality toppings (fresh lettuce, tomato, etc) the rest of the burger is horrible. I've eaten there three times. Twice in LA, once in San Diego I think. Every time, the hamburger was so bad I just threw it out. Over cooked in every case. One was so badly burned I wondered if they had just given me charcoal. Another time, the bun was half stale and half dipped in water. I'm convinced you just can't find a good hamburger in California.

Virgin America had an excellent First Class burger about a month ago but, alas, it has been rotated off the menu. Best airplane burger I ever had.

If you have the time, you can always go to the Proud Bird. It's interesting especially the first time; lots of memorabilia also.

BTW, IN-N-OUT is the company that was using the Westwind when it went in on approach to SNA years ago... They were big on using business aircraft. A 27 year old gal owns the whole company now.
