Hello McFly, I don't want to be away from my young children 5+ straight days at a time every week... I moved to my base to NOT commute. I've determined that driving 30 minutes to work is better than commuting in to JFK the day before and then having to commute out the day after (creating a 6 day trip) to hold a line isn't worth it.. by the time all those lost days off commuting add up, I'm better off fighting for decent reserve rules instead of the usual nonsense of "you'll be a lineholder soon" Yea coming up on 13 years here and well that isn't soon to me.... Why don't you go back to that "other regional" and stop looking to block the attempts to bake our quality of life better here? Or at least get back to those toes that need your attention.

I’ve commuted from your base to LGA for over a year and a half in the past and had very few issues with staying into days off. Is commuting perfect? No. But it’s doable. Want to stay in DTW and get off reserve? They make a plane for that. No one is forcing you to stay on the “heavy.” I know it doesn’t fit with your mesaba ideals, but maybe slumming it on the 200 is worth it. I realize we are a long way from the high water mark of the airline industry when the avro blessed us all, but things change. It’s unfortunate, but make the best of it. Life’s too short.

I bet he hates when he has to fly a PQ tail. Maybe he can bid to fly only XJ tails. Working and living at same base? what is he crying about? He should just work at Skywest where he can take 10 years of longevity pay and be a captain lineholder in MSP in 5 minutes.

Ha. Maybe we can snag both XJ tailed 200s back from Skywest to make the change easier.

You may not realize it, but you actually have it pretty good. You are making 6 figures while enjoying 11-12 days off per month (but that’s by choice; you could have 15 or more days off), while yours counterparts in the rest of the work force enjoy a whopping 8-9 days off per month.

Not all office workers are home every night. Lots of office workers travel.
The travel is a little easier because most times you've got an expense account or more per diem than we get (at least at the regional level) and often you get to choose the hotel and keep the points but just because you've got an office job doesn't mean you won't travel.
And when we go to the hotel, work is over. If you're an office worker, often getting to the hotel means it's time to answer emails and do more work.
But you're correct, SOME office jobs are home every night. The every night can range from 3 pm to 12am depending upon the circumstances of your particular office job.
The grass is not always greener.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
Flying airplanes has it's pluses and minus' too obviously but don't assume every office job is sunshine and rainbows.
