Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have prefaced my question with the fact that I am a military pilot and a newbie to airline speak. I do understand your reply except that I don't know how to equate that to time on reserve in months. Would that be like 2 - 3 months on reserve? Just looking for an educated guess. I have a family and will not be relocating from home, so I will be commuting. ATL is an easy commute for me. 9 - 10 non stop flights daily from my home town.

If one was to get the 200 in initial training could you bid for the 900 once you have some seniority? I wasn't sure if the type ratings for the CRj included all 200, 700 and 900 or different subset.

You are seatlocked for 18 months on whatever you get assigned in initial training. The 200 is separate from the 700 and 900.

What Kelvin said (about the 200 vs. 700/900), but other places fly all three variants among the pilot group (SKW and Mesa come to mind). It’s the same CL-65 type rating as per the FAA.
There is an 18-month seat lock now, but lately it has been waived due to the need to create captains. One of these days, the seat lock will actually become a “thing” again, I think.

I’m pretty sure I read that people hired last fall got their locks removed and moved to a different plane when they moved from NYC to ATL. Then again, I have slept since then, maybe I just dreamed it.
