Seems like many of your gripes are with the New York domicile. Detroit is still being awarded to new hires on the 200. It shouldn't take long to get out of NYC if you hate it that much. Anybody know what the hire date for the bottom seniority is on the 900 in Detroit?

I can give some perspective here as Im sure many others can too. When I was a young naive flight instructor back in the day I was living in Phoenix. I had a Mesa recruiter telling me how great it would be to be based in Phoenix and live in Phoenix. I spent three years commuting to CLT, IAD, and ORD and never had the seniority to hold PHX. I got furloughed before I ever held it.

I’m willing to bet that you have a better chance at Delta if you go to PSA/Envoy or any non Delta feed. Don’t bite (hire) the hand that feeds you. Plus you have a flow as a back up plan should you get stuck.

You people complain too much.. If you don't like it here, then leave. Reserve life is reserve life. It is what it is. I sat reserve for 5.5 months, and it was not bad at all. I had a great time hanging out with other 9E and DL pilots. Take advantage of your time in NYC.. There are so many things you can do in the city instead of sitting in your crashpad all day. Be thankful you have a job.

I know most people hate the whole "I had to walk uphill both way's in the snow to school" stories. But allow me to tell mine
When my first airline went out of business I was out of airline flying for 2 years. Every regional at the time was using a "pay to play" model. Pilots had to pay $10,000 for a "training" contract in order to get hired. This was not an option for me. I went back to charter/flight instructing and finally got hired at XJ. It is all about perspective. This is certainly a good time to get hired. |
The only people who hate such a story are those who never had to live it and don’t understand it.
It is INDEED a great time to be getting hired. And getting better. Those of us who started in the past 2-3 years are very fortunate to not have had to live thru the post-911 BS. I’m very thankful for my timing, and for the good health to get to enjoy living my dream!

It's important to remember those times so that we continue to demand better for ourselves and never again allow working conditions to be so abusive of pilots.

The punitive culture
The very punitive culture still exsists. A lot of people are getting called by the so called Chief Pilots and being questioned about everything. Those days were supposed to be behind this company but they are not. Abuse of FAR117 is also becoming an issue but you will be called into to explain yourself. So far, I am dissappointed here. Yes, I can leave OR fight to make it better. Without a flow, there really isn’t a reason to come here. The three wholly owned all need pilots and in the very least you’ll get something for the work you do.
Please make sure you know what you’re trying to accomplish by joining a regional. They are the same with poor work rules, mostly, but you’ll get to a major at the end of the abusing years. Direct Entry Captains now at Envoy. |
