Long Call Reserve

Anyone on here had it yet? Looking to get it possibly soon out of NYC, would like some feedback on how it’s been.

What do you want to know about it?

For NYC, bid last out on a weekdays only schedule if you would like to have the month off... long calls here aren’t getting used as much as other bases. Probably due to the 16+ we have.

I was LCR in March, and I will be LCR in May also. I've been used quite a bit given 4-5 day trips on my LCR days. I have been given the day off on LCR a few days and just stayed at home (which is nice).

Some of the guys I know have only been used 2 Days so far this month. 900 Fo side...

How are you dealing with the “impossible commute?” Call at 8 pm for an 8 am show? I’m legitimately curious how it’s working out.

It hasn't happened to me. I don't think CS would do that to be honest..One time I was assigned 2 deadheads on one of the days, but I did not want to fly to base, then proceed onto the 2 deadheads. It was a weekend schedule, so less flights. I had to fly out very early, and ended up canceling the first deadhead out of base and going on my own from home to meet up with the second deadhead.

Crew scheduling defenitly would do that. I’m LCR and almost all of my calls would have been uncommutable unless I was coming from maybe BOS or DCA

At worst a commuter could delay their arrival into base until the evening of Day 1. If they don’t call at midnight or 1 am on day 1; chill at home during the day and commute up on the second to last option.

I bid last out and they used me quite a bit more than that, although it was mostly turns which is fine for me living in base

It really is luck of the draw for the number of guys in the bucket you’re in and what pops up when. The buckets tend to be deeper on a m-f schedule. W

Is this on lcr? In New York?

MIkeFavinger 04-22-2018 04:17 PM

You guys could just look up April schedules on PBS, find the LCRs, then look up their schedules to date on Flica...

Yes. Scheduling is usually giving flying to pilots who need consolidation first. Which is like 40+ pilots in nyc.

Sakonnet 04-22-2018 06:47 PM

Thanks for all the responses. I’m a 200 guy on reserve in NYC right now. Understand that LCR is only 15% of pilots on reserve so does this basically mean that judging by the May lines there will only be 2-3 FOs awarded?

With more on the way. Looks like 3 classes in a row got NYC.

Really better be some 700s to go along with them.

HarlsBarkley 04-24-2018 12:30 PM

I am on LCR this month and I’ve been used about 50% of the days. A few one-day trips and a four-day. Pretty awesome deal if you live in base or close to it.

flydiamond 04-24-2018 12:44 PM

I will say the one nice thing about long call has been lack of 2 am calls. Seems most of the assignments are taking place before bedtime.

ninerdriver 04-25-2018 04:10 AM

I'll second the lack of 2am calls. Most assignments occur 18-24 hours in advance, and it's easy to preempt a call by checking Flica before bed.

That being said, during the last two months, I have been assigned a trip one time during the "crap, won't make the last flight" window. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen sometimes.

May I ask what you did when that happened? Considering long call as an option in the future but I have an "oh crap window" of about 2:30 hours.

I ended up driving. I live far enough away that driving to base stinks, but close enough that I can do it if it's the only option.
