New Hire Seniorty
 
1. Is new hire seniority DOB, SSN, or reverse SSN?
2. Do you get to choose which aircraft you will fly?
3. How long for a new FO to get to ATL?

1. Last 4 SSN, 99xx being the highest 00xx being the lowest
2. Yes based in class seniority
3. ... I think someone posted the most recent vacancy on here. I could be wrong but I think it was going a little more senior and I believe it was around 6ish months to get an ATL reserve line (not sure which aircraft)

SSN. 9999 is highest

You bid for aircraft and base at the beginning of ground school.

There has been very little movement into ATL on the 200 recently. The initial award on the most recent vacancy shows the most junior pilot awarded ATL on the 900 (not counting alternates) was hired September of 2017.

Detroit is going more junior than Atlanta lately.... but i say that now. A year from from now who knows. People with 22 Monthes on property got DTW CA spots but it was about 30 Monthes with ATL last vacancy. They keep saying growth growth growth. But still waiting on the word.

It was interesting to see a bunch of DTW 200 CA moving to NYC on the initial.

2. If the last 4 of your SSN are 5000+ you will likely get your pick if they're offering both equipment types

3. Depends on the equipment and it changes everyday anyway..probably a year

2. Complicated but correct answer: The company decides which aircraft and which bases are up for bid each class. You bid for what aircraft and base you want based on your in class seniority

There is no way to predict which bases and aircraft will be available for your class to bid on. You may hear someone say, "Well, the whole last class got blah blah blah so the next class will most likely get blah blah blah." That is complete crap.

For example, you submit your bid for base and equipment your first week of training, but then the company may say something like "your entire class gets to bid on the following aircraft and base: CRJ 200 in DTW". So, everyone gets that by default.

Or, the company may make 10 NYC 200 and 10 ATL 900 slots available to the class.

THERE IS NO WAY TO PREDICT THIS BASED ON PREVIOUS CLASSES, FUTURE GROWTH, TEA LEAVES, OR WHAT RECRUITERS SAY.

Whatever equipment you get, you may or may not be locked into that seat for 18 months. Company needs or Captain upgrade can undo that lock.

3. No way to predict an FO getting to ATL. My guess is less than a year. If you can upgrade to CA it may happen quicker, because that gives you the ability to break any locks.


I know these answers seem confusing with words like "bidding" and "seat lock", but this seniority crap is industry standard.

My advice is come here expecting to do time in NYC purgatory.

I and quite a few other new hires dodged that bullet because we were able to upgrade instantly and no other 9E First Officers wanted the ATL 200 Capatin slots, at THAT time.

Actually the company offer new hires the unfilled spots from previous vacancies so there is logic and rules as to what goes to new hires but the company does control the aircraft choice available to a class but based on open spots from vacancies

Confused???

Just know you have no control over which or how many 200/900 slots are offered in each new hire class.

Exactly. And for now, the only slots being offered to new hires are NY. So that’s a given. About 66% 900 33% 200. Does not mean that each class’ distribution will be exactly like that... company decides what they offer.

What are the Pros & Cons for each type of aircraft?
Eg. Maybe the 200 flies more than the 900 or the 900 has better routes etc.
