I'll let you know. I am in class on Monday 12/10. I think you are going to be correct.

I was scheduled to attend the 1/22 class. I was contacted by recruiting last week and told that MY new class date is in September. I don’t know if they postponed the entire class, but I am not attending if it does occur. Story is they’re overstaffed and it isn’t fair to the folks already out flying to continue bringing more people on. Supposed growth coming in the 3rd quarter 2019. IDK

The way all of this transpired is as follows.

Republic was attempting to buy Trans States Holdings which encompasses TSA, GoJet, and Compass Airlines. United has a pretty decent representation at GoJet and TSA so losing them would be trouble.

When Delta saw that Republic was making this move they quietly helped Republic in the background because it was a free solution to Delta's "three regional carriers" problem. Long story short, United successfully torpedoed the Republic/Trans States purchase. That forced Delta to extend GoJet's contract for another year.

All of this growth we were supposed to get this year came to a grinding halt because Delta hedged all their bets on this deal. Now it appears that they will have to break out the Benjamin's to move aircraft around.

Will we get GoJet's 700's or new 70 seat 900SC's? Who knows. The only thing I can speak to with authority is that the Republic/Trans States was the silver bullet Delta was looking for and it missed the target.

It's totally fair to the folks already out flying. The more folks, the better, please.

September seems like a late start for Q3 growth. When express jet planes came last October they had ramped up hiring in June...that’s when all new hires started to train exclusively on the 900...I’m thinking your class will either be pushed forward when growth plans become more finalized, or growth won’t come til Q4 or Q1 2020. But either way, I wouldn’t wait.

No one should ever want to be the last pilot hired!

That's right! The more we hire, the less time they spend as the last person hired.

Yea but the difference between this Q3 growth and the growth from expressjet is that we were understaffed when we took on the 900s. We're currently overstaffed and when we start taking on growth airplanes we could ramp up hiring at the same time to match the rate we take on airplanes. So he could hold the same class and still take on growth in Q3.

I hope we’re not as overstaffed with 9 months of no hiring... but with attrition how it’s been that will probably be the case.
