I was curious if there was an option to wear the sweater and NOT wear a tie... That was how we wore them in the military. The shirt would be worn with the top button unsnapped and the collar would be over the top of the sweater. It looked good in my opinion.

Keep in mind our uniforms are only tertiarily based on military uniforms. Ever wonder why you wear a hat indoors? Because the luxury liners (who loosly based their uniforms off military dress to give the impression it was 1905 and all the private yatchs were retired admirals from HMS) were the peak of safety and luxury. Pan Am copied- i mean they were inspired- by some of the big name pax ships crew uniforms, and most of that has survived.

Make no mistake, this is dressup and during bankruptcies management reverts to a corporate culture where you're a glorified button pusher so you can wear sweaters and dress cowboy boots. That stuff gets carried over.
