They're really not. Maybe a couple, and if you heard this from them first hand please correct them. Otherwise this is "heard from a friend of a friend". But I know probably a dozen recruiters who are all telling people 24 months projected (which is the what the company is projecting). Which I don't think is unrealistic once the we're back to hiring full speed. For someone hired today, I don't think 24 months is out of the question.
Like someone pointed out earlier, in the last four years upgrade times have gone from 3 years, to 1.5 years, to street captains, to 3.5 years. Things change fast at this level

Reserve times WILL absolutely go down here. Last time we were hiring 40 a month reserve times were inside of 90 days in NYC. 5-6 months might be a reasonable bet on reserve here, assuming those new hires get spread out. If 30 a month go to NYC and there's 90 reserve FO's the math checks

Thats also because the seniority list jumped from 2008 to 2011 hires to 2015 hires in a few numbers. Not a fair comparison to today. We have hundreds and hundreds of FOs hired in 2017 who are waiting for their upgrade to start the DGI clock. I am very skeptical that the upgrade time will magically drop to anywhere close to 2 years. Vacancies for only 24 plus attrition when we are already overstaffed and they don't backfill some spots will not suck those hundreds of 2017 hires up that quick. After this batch of planes gets delivered things will stagnate again unless Delta gets serious about career progression and stops turning back over half our pilots...

I believe the attrition numbers are trending higher month to month. I’m hoping for over 40 for August to keep the trend going. To everyone else, please remember that there are many great airlines hiring today. There also some not-so-great-but-not-regional airlines that may be better too.
