New hire expectations
Scoured the forum. Good information but as hiring has increased, was hoping I could get a firm grasp of what I’m walking into. Class date is beginning of October. I understand new pilots are new pilots are new pilots but coming from military, trying to fully grasp expectations here at a regional. Thanks for anyone willing to pass info!

Since your former military. Just accept you’ll be pared with maybe someone quite younger than you, and your instructors might be quite younger than you as well. We are all on the same team. Welcome aboard!

Expect day one to be a lot of information about all aspects of the company. Depending on your start date, you'll be part of a larger onboarding class that is comprised of new hires from every department. You'll be asked to stand up and introduce yourself, talk about your background, and say something unique or interesting about yourself. I went with a line about how, being from Idaho, one time I had an eagle snag a fish off my line at Henry's Fork.
Stuff like that makes the first day really authentic and fun. Come with an open mind, enjoy your time. You're joining our team at an awesome time. Good luck!

Work hard but don’t wear yourself out by staying up all night with little sleep. Eat well in the morning and at lunch to help you stay alert. Definitely study together, or fail alone. And when you reach the sims, definitely don’t do “when I was in __ we did it like this..” As long as you put in good effort you’ll do fine. Welcome!

And yes, to echo what he said, there may be a better way. But that's not your problem in training. Do it by the books, if someone tries to tell you how they did it at <insert airline here> politely ask them if that's what it says in our (faa approved) manuals.
If there's extra time, ask to practice visual approaches. Do at least one tight, straight to the marker max forward speed, visuals. Just to see what it's like.

Thanks all, yes I was a military evaluator so I’m expecting the training as well as those training next to me to be very different. I’ve noticed the training profiles and classrooms are very different here in the civilian world too. Thanks for the heads up on “we did it this way”. I’ll watch my mouth for that one! Anyone here with class date on October 7th?
