Default FO Flight Hours

Just a semi concern mixing between a few threads so looking for some insight.
As a new FO being on Reserve...

1) how many hours are you actually flying per month?
2) is there a decent amount of open time / premium time to pick up?
3) what has been your average credit for the last couple months?
4) Is crediting 85-95+ hours impossible as a new FO?

In class (900) currently and don’t want to get shipped off to NY (want DTW) and only fly 25-30 hours per month and just make min guarantee. I understand that anything you pick up gets added to your min (75 hours) but is there really that little flying going on?

Appreciate it!!

Really depends on how much you want to work. If you only work your “work days” you’ll probably get 20 hrs of flying a month, if you’re lucky. If you want to work on your days off, you can do substantially more. I regularly fly 40+ hours a month on reserve. But I also end up only having about 8 days off/month because i pick up flying on days off.

There is open time available, as well as trips always on the trade board. Open time is obviously better because it is mostly at 150%, but only if you don’t drop days. If you drop, then even open time will be at 100%, so you’re better picking up tradeboard at that point.

I generally credit between 85-110 a month.

You’re coming at a good time. I have been reserve for about 8 months, and should be off soon. You’ll probably be less than that, depending on base.

Welcome to Endeavor. It has been a great place to work. Ignore all the negatives you may read on here, as most people just like to complain.

As a second year FO that chooses to stay on RSV (In base, DTW):

1) Around 30-40
2) Yes. I usually pick up two extra trips per month.
3) Around 110-130
4) Not at all. I'm doing 128 this month (x $60/hr).

I don't get used much on reserve, so I often do other things with my time on my "work" days.

I bid 6 on, 1 off x 3, so I can get 10 days off in a row.

I pick up juicy trips from open time (either in base or that are commutable out of base, i.e. NYC).

I end up spending 18+ nights at home a month, while crediting 120+ hours a month this way.

Yes, I *could* hold a line, but why? I'd work much more and be gone from home more for less $ that way. I'm also not in a gigantic rush to hit my 1000 hours, as upgrade times are likely going to be a bottle neck (i.e. 2-3 years). I can take my time, enjoy the ride, and make more money for less actual work this way.
I did 6 months short call NYC, but this situation was worth the wait. 6 months of short call at a regional as an FO in NYC was such a miniscule drop in the bucket in terms of how much of my total career time will have been in that situation, that it's not even worth worrying about.

If you want DTW, chances are you'll be able to hold it far faster than I was able to. I joined during the freeze. You'll probably get it before training ends or soon after OE. I wouldn't sweat it.

If you live in base, life can be really good on reserve. If you commute to NYC, your life will be hell on reserve. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Exactly why I would give up the 900 for DTW right now!

I would think being on the 900 gets you to DTW pretty quickly. That's where most of the 900 growth is of our current bases.

Last vacancy showed 1 200 spot and open to new hires but 0 900. We shall see in a couple days with the new bid.

That was vacancy 5. Vacancy 6 shows 10 new DTW 900 FO positions open. Those initial awards should be posted in a little over a week. That means at a *minimum*, 10 people that want DTW 900 can grab it. However, it's entirely plausible that other's that are also holding DTW 900 FO are upgrading or vacating their spot to go elsewhere in the company. When that happens, it will need to be backfilled, and this allows more than the original planned 10 DTW 900 FO seats to be filled. I would almost count on that happening.

Also, that will probably be the norm at a minimum for each vacancy going forward. We are bringing on more 700s/900s to cover DTW flying each month for the next 7 months or so.

The part of vacancies where it shows what's available for "new-hires" means what can be assigned to new-hires on their first week of class. If you've already been assigned your base, then the only way you can change it is having the seniority to hold a vacancy position that opens up.... which can happen before you even finish training.
