Like 10 years ago, I had an iPhone 1, it won't take 10 years for the next generation of tech as it is increasing at an increasing rate...so either get ready for a war or check out some new careers.

I worry about this, and I’ll really start worrying when there’s a plane that can do this with a satellite hiccup and a power outage affecting ground-to-air datalink and the destination airport‘s localizer.

Heaven forbid there’s a leap second update and half the autonomous RJs in the sky with Rockwell Collins boxes can’t find out where they are let alone land. Maybe throw in some surface winds at 20G37 at the same time.

If it ever happens one will make a smoldering hole in the ground with a couple hundred people blasted into a fine red mist due to an “unforeseen technical glitch” within the first 5 years of operation and that will be the end of autonomous aircraft carrying people.

Keep churning the fear machine. You must’ve forgotten the GPS outage last summer that was a complete and total CF WITH two warm bodies up front. I’m sure that would’ve went well with a computer running the show.

Also needs to be hack proof. Some hackers seem to breach companies security every year & pass out credit card & personal info. I’d hate to see some terrorist get a hold of a few of these.

Yeah, cause mechanics doing loops isn't bad enough, eh?

You guys are right, nothing to worry about, I'm sure you will all get to retire with Delta benefits...

Pilots ability to stick their heads in the sand and pretend they won't eventually be obsolesced by technology is legendary.

Gates said most people overestimate how much progress will happen in year and underestimate how much progress will happen in a decade. ALPA didn't have much luck saving the flight engineer; I'm not sure why everyone is convinced they will save the SIC. Guess who they will come for after that?

All roads point to a society that needs fewer pilots.

The tech to self taxi, takeoff, land, and fly has been a thing for a while. Throw some failures in there, computer glitches, WX, malfunctions... You are not paid for what you do on a regular basis, you are paid for what you can do. Computers are great things for repetitive actions when everything is normal. Self flying planes are one sensor glitch from a aluminum shower and no one riding on it.

Now single pilot airplanes and babysitting automation is another conversation.
