It’s all about the motors tho
Yes, there are lots of -200 hulls out there but it’s this motors that time out and currently the 200 motors are at a premium. OO has some company that’s been buying them up as they get on the market. So if you can find a pair of motors that are not All burned out let me know....

That was my understanding as well, but did’t know if CF34-3A’s were available. I know the CL650 is still in production and they use a similar engine. But don’t know if it’s SB’d for the 200.
Then again, how much are you really saving by putting new engines on a decades old airframe.

ATR is probably the closest to a factory new 50 seat replacement, but the thought of doing five legs a day in Buffalo winter in those isn’t super comforting, even with the fixes since Roselawn.

Agreed, but at some point 200’s will too expensive to maintain. Which I am inclined to believe is sooner rather that later. As I see it the only viable replacements right now would be ATR 72 and the Q400 Nextgen. But, that would go against DL philosophy of an “all jet fleet”.

Can always bring back the -145 too. The XR is a sharp looking plane, and very briefly flew in Connection colors.

ATR is ok, but underpowered. The Q400 Nextgen with a dual zone cabin, double the SHP, and 80kt TAS difference would be an interesting replacement. Sure the ATR has it beat by around %30 better fuel economy, but still got to be cheaper than a 200.

absolutely true; question is, would DL be willing to sacrifice market share to cut back. DTW-LAN or even MBS, sure. Kinda surprised DL hasn’t done it sooner.

3-4 hour legs? It should do transcons even in winter (those can be 7 hrs) with an ALT.
