Is it sustainable to drive 3ish hours to LAX and commute to a EDV base? Or two-leg-it from KSBP?

Delta flights out of LAX and length of flight:

11 ATL A321/A350/B757 0400
7 NYC B767 0530
6 MSP B757/A321/B737 0330
5 DTW B757/A321 0415
1 CVG A321 0400

Seeking words of wisdom, thanks in advance!
It would be impossible to commute same day and be fit to fly. You would be looking at two complete days to commute for EVERY trip. 12 days off minus 8ish days of commuting would leave you approx 4 days in California per month. Move or go to Skywest or Horizon.

I commuted for years and had no problems. I had friends who did west Coast commutes. I know 3 people here that do Portland-edv bases.

It's not impossible. You should NOT do it if you can avoid it.

If it's temporary, until you get settled in and then plan on moving, sure. You don't even have to move to a base. Move to somewhere cool that has good frequency like RDU.

But don't do a 3 hour drive to a long commute. You will not stay young

Specifically for getting into Delta would RPA or Endeavor be better?

Specifically I’ve read on forums that Delta will meter or delay pulling apps from Endeavor bc they are a partner airline. According to the forums they don’t want to affect their own operations and sometimes will hire outside of Endeavor as a result.

I have the hours to get into Delta and received an invite for their online assessment. Spent 4 or 5 days prepping, took it, and then was told “Thanks But No Thanks” (TBNT) and try again in 6 months. From reading on the Delta forum that happens all the time, so I was half expecting the TBNT email…but it still was a lousy weekend after getting that email. I still would like to work for Delta, but I just want to make sure that by working for Endeavor I won’t be hurting my chances of getting hired by Delta. Also, I live in Atlanta, so that would avoid commuting since Endeavor has a base in Atlanta.

If you have the time for delta but was told to apply again go to jetblue or sprit. All dci carriers including republic are being metered. It's just not endeavor. Going to a non dci carrier will get you a sooner class date if you get a cjo.

If you go to Endeavor you are guaranteed a job at Delta. It might be 4 to 6 years away but you will flow to Delta. Anything else is a crap shoot. Do you want a guarantee, or do you want to take another chance sooner?

Two schools of thought on this -

1) If it absolutely has to be DAL, at EDV you will eventually end up there. Might take 5-6 years, but you will get there.

2) Going to a non-DCI carrier, you may not be successful in OTS. It does happen, but they like hiring pilots from competitors more than their own feed. Could be the magic sauce, but it may not pan out. If you need ATL, NK, F9, WN - all have ATL bases and if DL never calls it’s a career airline.

If it’s XY vs 9E - they meter both, one of those companies has a guaranteed job at the end, the other is a guaranteed app score/ (interview now?). Only you can decide what’s best - I suggest LLCs with an ATL base. WN is unlikely to ever close ATL, F9/NK who knows.

Good luck.

I thought Republic got rid of their guaranteed interview?

I doubt RPA will be flying for Delta in the future if they are still in business. Choose wisely ! Nothing is guaranteed in this industry just make your best guess.. Endeavor, American subsidiaries, and regionals with a Flow agreement would be my first choices. Regionals will be consolidated more in the future and you want to have a seat when the music stops or pauses..

I tell you what, if RPA really did stop flying for Delta in the future, then that would be an excellent shot for getting hired at Delta OTS.
