Default RPA or EDV?

I received a CJO from Republic recently, but I still am thinking about applying to EDV. I like that EDV has a path to Delta, and Ultimately being ATL based would be best for me long term. However, I live very close to the SDF Republic crew base currently and I will likely live here for the next 3 years. I am about 90 minutes from CVG, and It seems like I could commute to ATL from SDF. Main questions are how is the life at EDV compared to some of your RPA friends? How are the trips, training, realistic flow times, and upgrade times? Thanks in advance!

Better question is what is the long term goal?

If it has to DAL, at EDV you know you will get there eventually. If you are open to other opportunities, then some of the other factors are a consideration. I have friends at YX and 9E, both have pros and cons. I personally like 9E base options and total compensation better. YX has a faster upgrade at the moment and it’s arguably easier to obtain flight hours. That will be a different story in 6 months.

I suggest applying to 9E and seeing if you even have a choice.

CVG is very junior with us and it's very very small. You would fly with the same people all the time. Which I kinda think is cool. Some don't. They have said several times that CVG isn't going anywhere anytime soon. But I still just don't know. I think it'll be around another couple years to justify the investment. But if the flying doesn't come back to CVG I just don't see how they can keep it open forever. A TON of people here and leaving before the flow, so you can come here with that flow in your back pocket and still go elsewhere if you can. Rpa does do longer legs and they have a duty rig. So their schedules are probably better than ours. No telling when or if it'll get better here. Our current schedules still seem to be the result of covid changing the landscape and us doing much shorter legs spread further apart.

Between the two, pick which one works best for where you want to live and commute from. Our compensation tables are pretty similar.

See if you can get a copy of both union agreements and the write down the work rules/Regs/trip duty/etc and try to compare apples to apples.

Example Republic has a minimum duty guarantee of 4.2 hours.

Compare that to ENDV

What that means is, you are on reserve, you get called because an F/O is sick. So you finish his/her trip.

You fly JFK-Buffalo (that is ballpark a 1 hr flight)
You spend the night in the hotel at Buffalo then fly the next day Buffalo to JFK (another 1 hr flight). Then you go home after that leg.

Your total flight time is 2 hours. At Republic you get paid credit of 8.4 flt hours (4.2 for each day). At other airlines that don’t have a min trip duty guarantee, you get paid 2 hours. So granted RPA pays less per flt hour, but you just made 6.4 hours of FREE MONEY

Someone from ENDV can chime in on all their work rules and duty rigs. These contractual rules are VERY IMPORTANT if both airlines have a base you want to live. Now Endeavor advertises they will Positive Space Pilots to work, so commuting wouldn’t be an issue. If you do choose to commute, this benefit is HUGE.

9E min day pay is 4 hours. (But the above example isn’t accurate as RSV rules are different. On RSV you’ll get your 75 hour guarantee no matter how much you fly (unless you go over 75 then you get the higher amount). So basically, min day doesn’t mean much on RSV.

As a line holder you fly 1 hr any day you're pay d for 4. As 13pro said rsv is much different. If you fly less than 75 hrs on rsv you're paid 75. If you fly more then you get more. Last 3 months I was on rsv before getting a line I was crediting over 80hrs. That was may June and July

Drive to work. Don’t overthink this.

the industry is in a massive state of change. Playing 3D chess for 2025 is fruitless

This…being home based is EVERYTHING. You’re on Endeavors/Deltas time if that’s your goal, since they have gates you have to meet. With the mass hiring everywhere, you’d probably end up where you’d want to be before your flow # came…

Drive and take the first class date. But overall take the first class date as feel Rpa will give you both. Classes for 9E are pretty far out right now. Until the training department bottleneck gets solved

It's going to be an uphill battle solving training bottlenecks. I hear they're doing okay on sim instructors, but line check pilots are bailing faster than they can be replaced.
