United or Wait for Flow

Probably going to get laughed at but I currently live in Minneapolis and it says I’d flow around January-March 2024. I have a class at United December 6th. With the goal of wanting to stay in Minneapolis would it still be good to go to United and just commute or wait it out. I know it is a personal choice just looking for some wisdom and perspective.

Go to United. The company flow calculator is optimistic at best. If it doesn’t work out at United, then go to Delta if that’s your goal.

The company just admitted they screwed up some pretty basic math on their flow calculator. I don't know why anyone trusts it.

Go. Not even a question really. If you hate it you can apply ots anywhere else with ual on your resume

Commuting to a legacy is going to be infinitely better than staying at a dying regional with the promise of a flow in 2 years. There is nothing preventing you from taking the job at United and continuing to apply to Delta.

Thanks for the input and advice. I pretty much new my answer but commuting has been the one thing that’s been hanging over my head. Been with Endeavor for 4 years and excited for the opportunity at United and hope good things come for Endeavor guys. Now there will be another one gone for the attrition count for November!

Ask around about ual reserve rules and commuting just so you have realistic expectations. Sounds like you've never commuted before. Most of us have. It's not ideal, it has its bad days, but it's really not that bad most of the time. That being said if you live in the middle of nowhere and are staring down the barrel of a 2 hour drive to a 2 leg commute the night before.... Ya that might suck. But if you're commuting to a widebody FO slot at a major it will take the sting off

Take the class date. That flow might not be waiting for you if the economy takes a dump or could get seriously delayed. If Delta is your dream no one’s gonna stop you still applying OTS.

So far my time here has been fantastic. Not a commuter but a lot of 9E folks coming in every single week. I think I had 6 in my class. It’s good to see good people coming over. You could probably get ORD on your first vacancy so as long as you get on a narrowbody fleet.
