Basically it's going to further exacerbate the extreme seniority needed to hold MSP and DTW 900. It will likely be over 12 years just to hold captain (and if you aren't in the position already, there is no way to get there) and probably approaching 20 to hold a line as captain. I know there are a few guys looking at bidding back to 200 captain to get off reserve, but can't because there still aren't any openings in MSP or DTW for that either.... if they backfill on 17-01, they will likely be voluntary downgrades of 900 captains that don't like the looks of several years on reserve on the 900 and don't want to go to New York.
Per JD on his show today. ATL is pure growth, other bases will mostly
stay the same.

you sure are negative. This isn't Pinnacle anymore so you can lighten up.
Well I didn't have a guaranteed interview at first, FOs hadn't put the time in or were worth interviewing, but that changed when attrition nearly shut this place down. I'll say what ive said before "no one was more surprised than me" i was hired.

Just because I'm negative about the regional game doesn't mean I'm negative as a person. Part of getting old means you see things closer to what they are, and you have some history to judge current conditions. Coming up on ten years of regional life, and now with both feet out door (nearly), it's a stark look back. The regionals will shrink/have to shrink, and I'd rather see a lower paying group go first rather than an XJT.

I understand self help books are all the rage today, but remember, theres no scientific proof negativity actually causes negative outcomes. People trying to become positive NEED everyone around them to be positive so they can rewire (whatever they call it) but it's been shown in multiple studies "negative" people are fairly careful, driven, work longer hours, have equal success as " positive people". Don't conjoin negativity with depression. Depressed people are unhappy because of brain stuff, negative people are actually what you would call "measured" and "slow to excitement".

Either you think being negative is an insult or you feel like it's bringing down your positivity. Positive people are positive when surrounded by negative people, and visa versa. You'll find I'm a mixed bag I'm sure, but I would say i have a very negative look out on regionals as it stands today. I'm fairly bullish on mainline as an industry and the continued increase in salaries for pilots as a whole.

History is a rising road, I know that as much as I know anything, but the regional model was always a disaster and I'm starting to realize even though the big picture is good for us as pilots, there's a lot of pain coming too. If conditions continue, 2018-2020 are going to be amazing years for pilots as a whole, with one good (yet bad) tradeoff.

Yes now lets move on.

Only a group of pilots could turn generally good and exciting news into a huge downer situation.

Well I know most days we both suck at work.

Edit: or maybe that's just me.

Anyone know how many vacancies we may have this year? I remember reading somewhere they were trying to do 3 a year. By time this vacancy wraps up I'll be about 200hrs from being able to upgrade.

Well mine was supposed to be here yesterday, then today. Got an email this morning that only said your package can't be delivered as scheduled. So I called UPS and they couldn't give me any more information. God I miss FedEx

Bull puckey... I can guarantee based on 17-01 vacancy, DTW 900 captain will be shrinking at least 9% more by July.... All off the bottom per SSP "FO's" that took an upgrade waiting for their class. This vacancy will have DTW 900 Captain needing about 12 years to hold and about 18 years to have a line... growth my arse! I've got 3 words for RG, JD, RE, heck EB; Suck it Trebek! Stop dismantling DTW and MSP.... if you want more East coast, GROW, NOT SHIFT!
