When they're "not in the mood for the extra work" every single time (no matter which leg of the day it is, how busy/quiet the airspace is, how nice the weather is, etc.) it's concerning. No matter how many hours the other guy has racked up, they don't give me any confidence, as someone riding in the back, if it's all a repetition of the same hour flown by the autopilot until the airplane is configured, on-speed, on localizer, and on glideslope.

(And proficiency and safety aside, isn't flying the airplane at least on a nice day into a quiet airport something one would want to do for enjoyment as a pilot, and not something to have to look for a reason to overcome all the excuses not to?)
Agreed.

“I don’t feel like hand flying today.”

It’s just weird. It’s those types of captains who try to fly the expressway visual with the autopilot. Or fly 10 mile traffic patterns at 1,500 ft. AGL because they won’t just turn the AP off and fly a normal more compact traffic pattern that still complies with the stabilized approach criteria. Or when ATC sends you right to the outer marker on a dogleg and the AP won’t fly the approach because you intercepted the glideslope before the localizer and the captain acts all exasperated because he actually has to fly the airplane.

The most fun trips are with captains who enjoy hand flying and encourage their first officers to do the same. Because managing the autopilot is...pretty boring.

Likewise the response to western flying was pretty much "nothing planned".

Ahhh youth.

I remember when I was 23 and had just started at my first airline job and I thought I was better than the old guys too.

Now that I've got a whole bunch more experience, I'm not nearly so judgy.

Whether you're a good Captain isn't solely judged by whether you've got a textbook landing, there's a lot more to it than that.

In a few years when some of you guys have more experience you may feel differently about the comments you make here about those "bad Captains", or maybe you won't. Some people never actually figure out that you don't get better until you admit you're not already the best.

All that said, I fly the airplane plenty. I do often turn on the autopilot on climbout if I haven't flown with the FO before or if it seems like they're a little flustered. I guess you'd say that makes me afraid to fly the airplane, I say it's good CRM not to overload a new FO. But to each their own.

I would really really doubt this. 700's aren't score limited and serve a big purpose with Delia. Two class flying into shorter fields/smaller markets

Delta wants 3 carriers operating both types of airplanes. Think CR7 at Republic...

If you are an FO based in NY, preferably living in NY, I would appreciate a PM for some specific questions. Thank you in advance.

Anyone have the new ppo plan and young kids? Is it more cost effective long term for you than the HSA plan?

That's probably because you are pretty bad at hand-flying. CA probably has to babysit you too much. Fly better, miss. Fly better.
