Jeezus....
I only want to swap a day or two when open time is published. I don’t know what days open time trips are going to be on when I bid now do I?? Therefore when I bid I don’t care what days I get off.
I don’t bid for one long stretch off because I have a family, and working reserve stretches of 6/1/6/1/5/9 doesn’t work for us. Further, there is so little overall open time that it doesn’t matter much anyway.
Sorry if this is too complicated.

OT pops up pretty regularly through the month, if you have the time off and are flexible, you can pick it up.

I get alerts. There have been about five trips total in Feb in NYC 200CA. Don’t have much time off when you can’t drop and can’t be flexible when the company won’t approve any swaps.
I’ve gone so far as to pick up out-of-domicile day trip turns for 2 hours of block...

You mean every single pilot that isn’t me gets used? ‘Cause I’m still averaging 10 flying hours per month on reserve...

Not saying you fall into this category but lots of the people making the same complaint on Facebook don’t even bid for “first out” and are therefore “last out” by default.

I don’t think they use all 60+ 900 pilots on reserve in NYC during IROPS. Either way, it’s just ridiculous to say that the company is overstaffed by ~400 pilots and then not offer the flexibility a green reserve grid offers. Many chose 121 over 135 because of the schedule flexibility that 121 is supposed to offer. It’s understandable why that might not be possible when an outfit is short staffed, but indefensible when grossly overstaffed. I don’t know, maybe management acts like they don’t care because they want to drive people away at this point. I’ve heard that the training dept isn’t allowing do overs on LOE failures at this point.

Please read other posts on this. I don't feel like explaining why the company makes the grid red, when it actually isn't.

We can't have our cake and eat it too, when the cake is this expensive.

I think that our training department is pretty fair. I’d venture to say that there would be a pretty good paper trail to warrant an LOE failure.

Probably more evidence scheduling has no idea what its doing, or how to properly utilize the first out / last out provisions still.

I have yet to be paid out on a incorrect reserve utilization where scheduling didn't make some sort of defiant excuse why they were right and I was wrong.

Scheduling doesn't care about the contract, and during irops they purposefully violate it. My advise to reserves is to soak them with pilot issue forms. Maybe scheduling will start using pilots correctly if everyone files every time something fishy happens.
