You're absolutely correct!! Regionals are THE ONLY source of pilots for the 3 majors. I mean...it's not like there is another segment of the industry with funny letters..like LCC or something. Nah. Also, it's a good thing there isn't this Government organization that flies combat missions..good thing we don't have to compete with something like that. And let's hope and pray that we never see, in our lifetimes, freight pilots flying 747s and 767s looking for mainline jobs...you know...with Atlas painted on the side possibly.

Damn man! Totally forgot! I guess we should just all give up now! I'll go apply to truck driving school in morning. Must be PLENTY of qualified guys coming up to take our place. We are totally screwed. Sorry for trying to be optimistic.

Optimism is great, man! When you are in the backseat with your girlfriend and think you can unbuckle her bra one-handed. That's where optimism shines!
In the airlines? Well..it'll keep you coming to work every day. That's about it. You are facing an uphill battle applying to 3 majors off the street along with pilots from Airbus and Boeing operated LCCs, heavy drivers from Atlas and Omni, and let's not forget the perennial front of the line group: military pilots.
Long story short: Regional pilots will more than likely be making a pit stop or two at an LCC or Atlas before they can move on to a major. And even all of that will require large dashes of luck. This whole nonsense of majors hiring guys with 1500 hours by 2020 or whatever? Yeah..I wouldn't say that out loud in public if I were you.
Your best bet at getting to a major with minimal effort and no pit stops is going to one of AA's 3 wholly owned regionals. Otherwise..good luck.

I've never touched a boobie dude. I'm probably doomed for a life throwing gear at Kalitta.

So Racist.....
To answer the Original question:
Im an April 11th new hire. Training was about 3 months, then 2 months of reserve and next month (October) I will hold a Line in LGA/200. The most Junior guy in our class is JFK/200 and I believe he only did 1 month of rsv and got a line this month. The 900 guys from my class are still on reserve on both jfk and lga but they might hold a line by November.
Things can change though but that was our experience!

PS-If someone can't speak fluently in english and I have to be single pilot in LGA or JFK I won't be very happy about it. So far it hasn't been too bad. Hopefully that trend continues.

I'm not being racist...just because I wish for some clear, concise and coherent thoughts doesn't make me a racist. I can't wait to fly with you so I can hear all your ideas you've posted on here.

Oh this is going in a lovely direction.
To change gears- 17-04 initial comes out tomorrow, will be curious to see where the most junior upgrade falls, and what the time reduction will be (if required).
With DTW900 offered for FOs, hopefully some folks can make a switch out of NYC; with how many in DTW and MSP are leaving in the next year so, there should be more spots soon enough.
Speaking of MSP, when are they going to start putting 7/900s in the A gates? The alley is less claustrophobic with the inner B gates gone.
