They say we get more back but there was a lot being deducted.

Anyone know the 2018 tax impacts, if any, for Per Diem?
I didn't tip because it was a tax deduction...

I'm not a pilot who says "**** the other guy, as long as I'm ok, I don't care" I'm actually quite the opposite. I'll give someone the shirt off my back if he needs it, but that's not what we're talking about.

I had the option to go to other companies (and I did start somewhere else), but one of the main reasons I came to 9E is because of the stability associated with Delta owning 9E. I made a smart decision (at least for the moment it seems like it was smart) and I don't think that someone who made a bad decision should have higher seniority than I do.

An argument can be made that compass isn't a "drowning company"...but for the purpose of this post, I'm speaking in generalities
The McCaskill-Bond statute makes the staple discussion irrelevant. It makes seniority list staple jobs illegal, after the TWA-AA merger.

I would have expected a merger with Compass a few years back, no longer would I expect that. Synergy is too good now to drop that ball. If we get Compass planes it will be via a transfer. Staffing will not be difficult, we have already proved able to hire/train 60 mo. We could do more with additional sims. Think of how much destruction D could do on Horizon Air, offering West bases, good pay, interview, and quick upgrades. I’m sorry to say but I think Compass is toast. As far as seniority #’s out west I know of 30 or so that commute, few are senior 20+/-yrs, I also know many fo’s would want to move out west. I estimate 100-150 total on property willing to fly the Best Coast. I know I am in. Seniority would fall junior midlist on down so we have massive potential to smash it for Delta. After they cleanup those waiting for/in training now thru AUG, we will begin the push on this project.

You can only claim tips given if YOU paid for the cost of the item (say a van driver for a commuter hotel). You cannot claim tips given to a van driver that the company provided for you. That is included in the M&IE you get paid every day. (I know EZPerdiem and others tell you that you can claim van driver tips, but they are wrong; the IRS clearly states that you cannot.)

The per diem expense will no longer be able to be deducted for at least the next 5 years; in fact, no more personal business deductions at all (uniforms, equipment, etc.. Even if it was, most of us wouldn’t qualify because the standard deduction will be nearly doubling, so it’s a moot point.

We really need to use this tax change as a bargaining tool to increase our per diem to match the full M&IE rate. If we can no longer deduct the difference, we should get the full allowance. I may be off my rocker but there is no reason we should be paid a lower per diem than mainline. Our per diem expense does not match what other traveling professionals are able to expense per day.

I agree 100%. If the government allows $51 per day, then we should bargain for $2.13 (or more).
