Viva La Mexico

Need a refresher on what food is okay to bring down to Mexico. I've never had an issue with snack bars or prepackaged food like beef jerky so I'm assuming that'll still be okay. I'm not sure if I should bother with any microwaveable "meal prep" style food though such as beans, rice, or vegetables.

Anything packaged and unopened is fine. Fruits and vegetables are a definite no-no. Prepared meats in tupperware MAY get by, may not.

Good to know, thanks!

Speaking of Mexico. Is it doable to live in lets say Monterrey (mty) and commute to work if youre dfw based? Any feedback on this

Thx

Yeah it wouldn't be bad. Just an added hassle of messing with customs and you get hit with some taxes. $91 roundtrip. But it's definitely doable.

We have numerous FAs who live in Mexico and commute to DFW. A couple of guys who live in MTY, another in AGU. So it's very doable. Plus you get the cockpit jumpseat while they don't...so your commute would be even easier.

We have a fa that commutes from ord to Puerto Vallarta, says is easyish.

It's only $75 Round trip. $25 down and $50 up.

It adds up. Not worth it IMHO.

You sure about that?

I stand corrected. I looked up three different airports in Mexico and they all varied between $65-95. I thought it was the same since the places I go have been consistent.

If you have a mexican passport you don't pay taxes flying down there. You just pay taxes going back to the US. So you save like $25 ish

How about an open bag of almonds or beef jerky? Can buy more but would rather not toss the road rations.
What's the food situation at MTY?

Hit and miss. Sometimes they'll look and find it and take it. Sometimes they'll look, find it, and leave it. Sometimes they won't look at all. It's Mexico.

Ive heard there is an amazing taco stand right down the street from the hotel. Also heard that MTY is actually a pretty nice city. Not been myself yet, at least not off the airport grounds.
