Logging time in sim

Just wanted to see (if) how everybody logs their training in the sim. Is there a clear cut way it should be logged? When I got my first type on a G150 @ flight safety I just logged it as real flying and simulator, per FS instructor that's acceptable in full motion sims. I've heard differing guidance on it now. Thoughts???

I always log sim time, but I only log it as sim time. I use Safelog, so I log the time as sim by simulator number and level. Not sure when/if someone will ever care what my times are in different levels of sims, but since I have the option I log it accordingly.

It definitely isn't real flight time...since you aren't in a real aircraft. It should only be logged as Sim time it is/should be logged separate from simulated flight time (hood time.) You should have a column in your log book just for simulator time.

I just log the type of aircract, sim number and location and time under sim time and what maneuvers were performed.

I log sim time but only as sim time not as Total Time.
Why would I?
You're required to log anything that shows proficiency which means you should log training and testing sessions.

Because it's required maybe?

§61.51 Pilot logbooks.
(a) Training time and aeronautical experience. Each person must document and record the following time in a manner acceptable to the Administrator:

(1) Training and aeronautical experience used to meet the requirements for a certificate, rating, or flight review of this part.

(2) The aeronautical experience required for meeting the recent flight experience requirements of this part.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you don't work in the 121 world. Everything is automatically recorded and tracked in the company system. That system is what documents and demonstrates to the Administrator that everything is legal. We don't ever whip out a logbook to show anything. Back in the day, CA upgrades had to show a logbook for the ATP certificate, but now that you need an ATP to get a job the only time you're going to show anyone a logbook is for an interview.

I'm 9 years behind in the logbook, absolutely no reason to log.

You only need to log sim time if you need the time for the ATP certificate. The guys in class that didn't need the time didn't bother logging it. All records are tracked in our circa 1963 computer system that powers the world's biggest airline and many others. You just need to prove to the feds you meet the recency of experience whatever medium it is on is irrelevant. Toilet paper for all it matters as long as required info is there.

On aside old DOM was told by our FAA maint inspector he needed a resume so he wrote it out on toilet paper and handed it to him. And then told him to be sure and put it to good use. The DOM and PMI never got along well.
