I want to live where I am based. Is Dallas my best option? How likely is it to be based there?

DFW new hires aren't seeing the base for a long time. Those hired in December just got their transfers to there. If you're over 40, then you can go for the 175 and you'll get it by default. If you choose the 145 then you'll be somewhere else until they can transfer you in.

The CRJ has gone to the most junior class members multiple classes in a row. If you wanted a very close to 100% gurantee would be to select the CRJ and live in Chicago. With Miami coming online and the 145 being spread between LGA, ORD, DFW and MIA there isn't any telling which basses will be offered for class and transfers can take time.

I am 33. What base do I have the highest chance to get? Is the goal of most people to get to dallas?

Highly likely you'll get the 145. Lately they've been offering guys a choice between ORD or LGA on the 145. I'd imagine 145 in one of those two bases will be your best bet. There are a lot of current 145 LGA FOs bidding MIA. LGA will in turn need more new hires to go there. Yes, DFW is a very popular base with lots of guys wanting to get there. Good news is, things are moving very quickly with the upgrade time dropping lower every few months. As long as you get on the 145, you'll eventually get whatever base you'd like at some point down the line.

"Over 40 and get it by default", why is that? Age and 175 and DFW?
Thanks

The 175 in DFW is by far the most sought out status. Oldest guys in class get first pick of base. Hence, it goes to the older guys in class.

There is still no guarantee that someone 40 will get the 175. Guys in their mid 40s have been the youngest to get the 175 in some classes!

Base/equipment selection is currently done by age-based seniority. Within a class, seniority starts with the eldest and ends with the youngest.

This is absolutely true. There are no guarantees for anything. No particular base/equipment is guaranteed.

...not sure why people believe this or continue to hold out in hopes of getting the 175. when half of the fleet is transferred to ORD in september, there will be a displacement bid and guess what, new hires/jr guys will be displaced and will most likely end up on the crj or 145. stop wasting time and get that seniority locked in.

Which frames are currently at ORD, 145 and CRJ? And is the 175 moving to ORD in Sept?

Even if half of the 175s move to ORD, there will be plenty of CAs and FOs that will take a base transfer to ORD and forgo any displacements out of the 175.

They will not run a displacement unless they absolutely have to...if I had to bet, I would bet on an ORD 175 base being opened and more 175 options being executed (or taken from other carriers, I can't remember how many options we can take due to scope currently) before I would bet on a DFW displacement. That would be recruiting suicide for this place.

OK, correct me if I am wrong, but has there been any official notification that the 175 would move to ORD? Half the fleet, what would pick up all the lost flying out of DFW?

I am not saying that it won't end up there eventually, but September is a non-starter for me as we don't have the crews or the aircraft to send half the fleet there.

As for your displacement idea, no way. It would slam the door shut on recruitment as word would spread like wildfire that they are doing it.

I don't see your scenario working out, at least not in the time frame you are saying. I could be wrong however, if I did somehow miss this news.

Ok you have two things going on here that need to be separated. First you think the 175 will be in ORD in September. Second you say there is going to be a displacement.

I'm not in the know on this whole what bases are opening and what equipment is moving where. So let's say the 175 goes to ORD in September. Soon their will be a vacancy sent out and people will bid it and get awarded their CA positions. I don't see how you get a displacement out of this. The only displacement that is going to happen is when the CRJ leaves.

RawHide 07-06-2017 05:27 AM

The training center wouldn't be able to keep up with equipment changes of a displacement. That was part of the most recent LOA to incentivize base transfers with 10 hrs override.

With sooooo may new instructors at the training center, no wonder why its hard to keep up. My check airman had a hard time using the sim.

He probably couldn't get around in there due to your inflated ego.

It may be, but depending on your age you'll get it. If you're under 30 for sure you'll get ORD, LGA or MIA. But hey, there are bids every 3 months to change Bases.

Anyone have any idea what the state of the 700 will be in the next 4-6 months?

Hope you understand the allusions I'm about to make.

There are two tails at ENY:

Embraer side (E175/145) is like post WWII era, growth, houses being built, good jobs, quality time at home with the family, "A new day in America" slogan was a reality. Baby boomer generation being born, and it was glorious. Much to be excited about.

CRJ side is like, what a friend called "1860 pre civil war era America" ... let's just say life in the cotton plantation sure was miserable! Your wife ain't your wife, your son ain't your son, because your..... working in a "plantation". All you know is that massa sending your tools to another plantation and the way they see it, that's all u need to know. Your family planning and anxiety level does not matter. Just do your job and wait, for the civil war to end, and the cloud to clear. Until then, if you complain too much it will get heard. It's a small group so watch your back because the twitch will come out if massa hears about you, and massa has a long stroke! Now get!

Hope that helps...

This sums it up nicely. The CRJ is just going to continue to hang and whither on the vine.

Yep. I'm on the 700 and let's just say it's less than ideal. The door is shut on upgrades probably for good. The FO side is a little better since there is movement, but they are still withholding FOs from upgrading anywhere due to staffing.

How much hiring are they doing on the 700?
