Fleet Plans
What are the official fleet plans for Envoy? What is the rumor mill saying about fleet plans? I've read a lot about it, but nothing seems to be real current. Are the CRJ's still going away eventually? I also keep hearing people say it's going to be an all 175 airline eventually. Whats the real deal? Is it a concern that the airline might start shrinking again or will they be replaced with 175's as the other planes leave?

Nobody knows. And anyone who acts like they do is lying. I'm not convinced that AAG/Envoy management has a plan nailed down yet.

As stated above, it's very, very fluid. Right now, the best I can tell you... we'll have 44 E175s by the end of the year. There have been no announcements about exercising additional options. The CRJs are all slated to go to PSA eventually, but word on the street is that they have temporarily halted transfer of those aircraft due to PSA staffing (no actual confirmation of this rumor from the company at this time). The 145s appear to be staying around for a while, in some capacity - I have no idea if transfers to PDT are still happening or not. The 140s are slowly but surely being brought out from the desert - we're SUPPOSED to get all of them back onto the line, but staffing limitations may prohibit that. Stay tuned, as rumors/announcements change very often.
The word I heard was 150 E175s at Envoy, 150 CRJs at PSA, as many 145s Piedmont can staff, with RAH and SkyWest flying where needed. Other Eagle contract regionals will cease operations as the WOs can do the flying. AWAC is gone Feb 2018. TSA and Compass will likely be next. SkyWest will eventually absorb the XJT Eagle flying. Mesa’s flying will likely depend on their ability to staff. |
According to AB during a recurrent class the CRJs will continue to PSA as deemed able by their staffing abilities. So the end game is for them to be at PSA. How long that will take? No one knows. As for 175s, 44 is the max we will get as of now. The statement of Envoy being all 175s is what our CEO desires, nothing more. AAG is the only one who can make that happen. The 145/140 are staying with some still transferring to PDT. As to how many is left to go, I don’t really know. I do know that this fleet isn’t really growing with the gains and losses over time. Anyone stating that we are growing is only looking at the short term operation. Yes, we have gained the labor aspect of the business, but from what I understand the size of the operation isn’t that much bigger as of now and looking forward 5-10 years.

To shed some light, the transfer of your 700s to PSA has not been stopped. According to our management AA wants the transfer to continue at 1 /month until PSA can handle 2 /month. The airline is actually currently pretty fat on pilots, the issue is Mx personnel. Word has it they are close to a TA with Mx and AA has told our management to “get it done ASAP”.

He said that? Well, no matter. Managers say lots of things here. The only time they actually mean what they say is during a disciplinary action on a subordinate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
Had an in depth conversation with an Envoy chief trainer earlier this year while I was catching a ride on Envoy metal early one morning.
It is consistent with what has been stated. 1. Envoy will continue to take delivery of 175s to replace all of the CRJs and some of the 140/145s. 2. The CRJs all go to PSA. PSA will remain all CRJs. 3. Piedmont will take as many 145s as they can handle. They will get rid of all their Dashes. 4. Envoy will replace the 145s where 175s make sense. Some routes are too thin to support 175s. 5. This will take until the end of 2018 to all take place. 6. The intent (at least for now) is for all 3 W.O.s to be operated as separate entities. 7. AA would like all 3 to grow, taking on more RJs routes served by other regionals. Of course things can change, but it made sense, and he was certainly in the know. |

It seems to me that things are pretty much moving that direction. AA has been seemingly consistent with following through on what they say their plans are over the past few years. I see no reason why they would be putting out this info and not following through. All of the AA WOs are hiring and all will increase pay in 2018 to compete for new hires. I see no real reason any of this won’t happen barring some outside event.

I heard the same thing from a PSA pilot. He said the new Amazon facility is scooping up their mechanics by offering big pay. Apparently amazon poached them right off property.... nine in one day and more followed.

Yea it was a crazy summer with short-staffed Mx. One Mx guy told me recently that PSA experienced almost 30% turnover with mechanics so far in 2017. That’s crazy...

We’ve been told by some in management here at PSA that there is possibility for growth beyond 150 airframes. That most likely would mean some of the Mesa CRJ900s that AA owns. As long as the WOs keep hiring AA will keep moving flying to the WOs. I would expect news of more than 10 175s next year...

There was a false rumor spread when they made the order for -900s in 2015 that it was from AA's order, but all those aircraft are registered to and paid for by Mesa. |

I can’t find any evidence that would say AAG has any ownership or interest in those aircraft. The press release for the order only says Mesa. The aircraft are all registered to Mesa (not Wells Fargo or AA). It was merely a rumor at the time that spawned from PSA’s staffing shortfalls and some Mesa pilots thinking they were getting aircraft diverted from our order. AA being a “creditor” would imply Mesa owes AA money. Did AA finance the buy? If so, it would be in AAG’s finances. Again, I can’t find anything about that. |
