Training Tips Please
Hi guys,
I’m about to get a training date for my CTP-ATP (week 0) and then kickoff with the actual training (week 1). Couple of questions: 1. How conflictive is spending 2 weeks studying the shepard only to get ground school and sim training before the test which can get on the way of my written preparation? 2. Where can I get specifics abut the course asap? I have no glass nor turbine experience so I gotta lot to cover. I recently started reading The Turbines Pilot’s Flight Manual. Though a great book I’d like more specific stuff about the E145 which would most likely be the assigned A/C. 3. Could you guys please go over the non-training stuff, like the hotel, laundry, eating options, is breakfast included, gym facilites (if any), possible training locations, etc. Pretty much anything I can get familiarized with before arriving for boot camp so I can focus on the more technical stuff right away. Thanks in advance. |

I read this twice and still not sure what you are asking. I do suggest chilling a bit though 2. Where can I get specifics abut the course asap? Once you have access to the docs, read aom1 and 2. Don't worry about any of it now. Flip through the turbine pilot manual though, it's a good book 3. Search the Envoy forum by "pink slip", show posts. One of the results from mid last year has a very detailed write up there. Your most likely atp/cpt hotel has breakfast and basic groceries right next to it. Indoc hotel does not have free breakfast, hotel shuttle can take you to a nearby walmart Thanks in advance. |

How will the week 0 of training affect my written preparation? Ideally it'd be better to study the shepard and take written right away, Of course this is not possible. So basically that leaves me with having to go thru the all the questions again during week 0 on top of the ground and sim sessions right?
You will have plenty of time in the process to flip through Sheppard. Normally you'd take your written on Monday after week 0. If your week 0 and 1 are back to back, you will take your written after week 1. Week 1 does have an exam at the end, but it isn't exactly rocket surgery. But seriously - chill. |

Week 0 is atp/cpt. Relax and watch 4 days of airliner crash videos. Then 3 days of playing around in the sims

Training is about learning the materials as they are presented to you by Envoy and PASSING the test. Stay in step with what’s going on at the moment and don’t get a head! Also, don’t attempt to learn everything there is to know about the airplane right now, just what you’re testing on. Download the Quizlet app and search for Envoy and the material you are studying. Example- Envoy E175 Limitations. This is about eating an elephant 1 bite at a time.

Thanks in advance. Definitely don't worry about anything aircraft specific. Best piece of advice I have is show up to systems with your limitations already memorized, that way you'll have more time to study for systems and procedures. But don't worry about this until after indoc. Welcome |
If you want to help yourself out in training, make sure you show up with the fundamentals.....how to read an approach chart, how to enter a holding pattern, continuing below minimums, etc. they’ll teach you what you need to know about flying a 145, CArJ, or 175 the way they do it, but don’t have time to teach you proper holding pattern entry or how to read a Jepp Chart,

Just finished training and my throughts were...”huh? Thats it?” I was a piston driver who hasn’t flown any actual IFR in 2 years, although i had plenty of glass experience.
Once you get through the door on day one, you will realize that no one else has any ****ing clue what they’re doing either. Once you finish indoc, you’ll have an idea on how to proceed. Once you get your materials, read AOM2 cover to cover and the AOM1 General section 20 times. The systems classes are hit or miss. I found self studying that stuff was more helpful. A couple people in my class had to take the written...study sheppard during week one and take the test that weekend if you can. After that it would become a huge headache. |
