A lot of people on these boards voiced their concerns to one another when in the middle of pay negotiations, he posted a company sponsored video. It was not see as being in unison with his fellow union members and instead shilling for the company in a very critical time.
For Swayne's deeds, that would be the one that bothers me. I think it's neat that he has a successful YouTube channel, I wanted to do that in my career too, but I didn't get the views. And the social media policy is the company and AA's fault, not Swayne's fault, getting upset with him because he got the blessing, in my mind, is a mistake.

Maybe the union needs a rule such that they can order members to "cease and desist" in public behavior which is counter to the goals and best interests of the pilot group? I guess the unions only hammer would be to kick someone down to non-member status, which would be largely symbolic (and save the offender some dues money).
You can be a member in bad standing, or a non-member, but you will pay your dues. Otherwise you will be terminated.

My question is, why does anyone seek internet fame if they're in a career not associated with being a narcissistic 'look at me' persona such as acting, journalism, politics etc. Why not just change to another field that is more visible?

Why is this even a thread ?
Let the man live his life.
So much jealousy in this world, it’s not easy doing those videos, it takes time and editing.
We should all just support each other.
Those videos are great, very informative, they definitely helped me make my decision in which regional to choose.
In my opinion, keep going bud, forget the haters

Preferential treatment: The rest of are told that we cannot link back to Envoy because they're worried about getting sued or canceled. That we actually received training saying that they want us to include in social media posts: "This statement is my own and is not sponsored or affiliated with the company."
Posting Envoy sponsored videos during pay negotiations: A lot of people question where his loyalty is when we're supposed to be a union together and he's doing what he's doing with the company.
Try to have some critical thinking skills before you start opening your mouth as to people's motives.

It’s easy to make fun of his stuff as cheesy and pointless but his target audience is aspiring pilots. Although I think he’s peaked.

Envoy does not want their pilots representing the brand on social media without oversight. Oversight takes time and resources. They would rather spend those resources on someone they know is capable of representing the company well.

This argument keeps getting repeated and is really weak. It's not preferential treatment. Envoy thinks he has a talent and wants him to do another job. Are check airmen getting preferential treatment? No, they were picked because they have a talent - training. What about pilots who appear in safety videos? What about pilots airlines use as brand ambassadors at colleges? What about pilots airlines use in their homepage puff pieces?

Yes, there are plenty of haters, FOR PERSONAL REASONS, and they have no place here or anywhere else, but those of you cheerleading him are working your way to THKoolAid status.
