Minimums to start training?
 

I read some recent posts where folks have mentioned starting training with less than 1500 hours. I have 1200 hours, of which 460 hours is part 121. NOT included in that time is approx. 145 hours full motion sim in the LearJet (CAE Simuflight), nor any ERJ sim time training for XJT.

I have a standing offer with Envoy from my interview in January.

My question is, whats the minimum time needed to enter into training with Envoy?

I started with 1452 and needed the sim time from my ATP/CTP as well as training to push me over 1500.

FAR 61.159 a 6
(6) Not more than 100 hours of the total aeronautical experience requirements of paragraph (a) of this section or § 61.160 may be obtained in a full flight simulator or flight training device provided the device represents an airplane and the aeronautical experience was accomplished as part of an approved training course in parts 121, 135, 141, or 142 of this chapter.

You were flying 121 previously. Based on your time, I’m going to assume you’re military and already have an R-ATP?

If so, they probably wont even open your logbook.

I bet his time is pre 121 ATP requirement.

To clarify, prior 121 time was before the 1500 hour rule. Thanks for pointing out the regs for counting sim time. I am aware of the regs but was questioning a couple of recent posts where some folks stayed they started training with less than 1000 hours. Wasn’t sure how or if that was possible.

I'm not sure of the exact school's or processes, but military and certain school 141 programs can lower mins to 750/1000/1250 somewhere in that range. I honestly don't know the intricate details of it, but I imagine if you were part of such a school program you would know. Since you have prior 121 time prior to the rule changes, I doubt you were apart of any such program and as such 1500 is your magic number.

Pilots who attended part 141 flight schools and who have achieve a total of 60/30 FAA "approved" credit hours (these courses are worked out between the individual flight school and the FAA) are eligible for a reduced total time of 1000/1250 hours, 100 of which can be sim time provided it meets certain requirements. The sim time from the ATP/CTP course and from initial training can count towards these 100 hours so some applicants are able to enter training below that 1000/1250/1500 minimum and credit the sim time from training towards the total requirements.

Envoy will allow FOs to begin training with 1460 TT per the FARs which permit some sim time to be used to meet the 1500 hour requirement. Things change constantly here, with no warning and for no reason, so check with recruitment.

you get 8 sim sessions at 4 hours each for the actual training, plus a 2 hour mv which i think you can count towards 1500. The ATP/CTP training at ATP/Higher Power contains 6 hours Full motion and 4 hours in a fixed base sim IIRC.
