Can anyone recommend a good crashpad for Dallas? I start reserve there on November. Carpool is preferable...

Motel 6 or Red Roof Inn if I remember correctly. They are like $25 a night, which depending on how many nights you will be staying is cheaper than a pad, especially figuring in the 4 commuter hotels.

Other than that, I would suggest asking around the airport/CPO.

The hotels can still work if you are on reserve. If you know other guys there, you can share hotels. I’ve heard of two or three guys doing this. Better option than sharing a room with five or six guys like some of the crash pads and then still use the Red Roof as a backup once you have gone through everyone’s commuter hotels. I’m NOT saying to get a hotel in someone else’s name that’s not using it. Big no-no.

Part depends on where you are on the reserve list and whether or not you can get a trip for an overnight. Also will want to profer for the earlier shifts. Makes check out time and hotel planning easier.

But most of the crew rooms have a bulletin board, as do the FAs. I haven’t looked to see what’s on them.

I think Dallas has fewer options than a lot of places because of the cheaper hotel options.

Well you are clearly not thinking through the situation.

Lets say its a 30 day month and you have 11 days off. That means we have 19 nights to worry about. If you can bid and hold RAP2 so you dont have to come in a night early, we can remove even more nights. Lets be conservative though and assume you can only shave off another 3 nights by getting out on your last days and coming in on your first days. This number gets better the longer you are here.

Now we are looking at 16 nights to cover. Lets be real conservative here and say that you only pick up 3 overnights, now we are down to 13 nights. Subtract out the 4 commuter hotels and we are now down to 9 nights.

So, at $30 a night x 9 nights we have $270, call it $300 with taxes and the like. With that, you get a cleaned room daily, your own shower, sink, bed, floor, tv, internet, hotel shuttle, security etc. If you can find a crash pad for $300 that does all that, go for it. However, I would gladly pay a little more for all the privacy and cleanliness of the hotel room.

When I did reserve in DFW, I typically used my four commuter hotels and about 3 paid rooms a month. I commuted in on a RAP2 day one and commuted out on a STBY1 last day.

Sure, if you had to use a hotel out of pocket each night, that would get expensive, but at least in my experience that wasn't the case.

I'm opening a DFW Crashpad with availability in November. I've stayed in a few crashpads and I think I've learned what works and what doesn't.

We're providing a crew car, plus shopping and restaurants within walking distance. The main thing is that it's clean and relaxing. The last thing I want is to crash in a dirty place.

In a hotel you can't really "hangout" on reserve- the lobby sucks and you are eating out nearly every meal. This pad is more like a home away from home.

Weekly professional cleaning, nice rooms, with luxury bedding. It's got to be comfortable and provide a good value. Quality of life (to me) is worth a few extra bucks.

www.DFWCrashpads.com is the website. I know I'm plugging my business, but these are things I'd look for in any location. Clean, comfortable, High-Speed Wifi, big TV, nice furniture, good beds, close to the airport, near restaurants, gym nearby, etc.
