There is one now Captain that is causing all sorts of problems and I knew of people having problems with him when he was a new hire. I wish someone had paid attention to his probie reports as we are now stuck with that problem child.

I don’t know how prevalent this is, but I have started seeing reserves that finish in the AM, being ‘turned back’ into 10 hours mid-day rest and starting a late PM RAP. Talk about a circadian swap.
I know it’s contractually legal, but frustrating for those of us who prefer either AM or PM flying.

Dont worry he will be aa's problem soon enough. Maybe they care about probation reports over there.

I just love it. Get up early after a full night rest, get to base and get released into rest, then come back ten hours later to work again. Keep in mind you are rested and most likely caffeinated and will in no way shape or form be able to get sleep.
Oh well, who needs safety after all. I wish more people called in fatigued to these as in reality anyone that flies this trip would certainly be tired when they had to go.

Two reserve shifts in one day sounds very fatiguing for a commuter. I’m sure ED and the rest of the FRMP committee would agree. I can’t imagine a situation where I’d get called out during the second shift and be fit for duty. A possible exception would be if they provided a hotel but even then it would be pretty sketchy imo.

It’s not very common and like you said, despite the proven science of sleep, is still legal. This time of year they are especially prone to using it.

It may be FAA legal. It may be contractually legal. But it’s not safe.

We should be consistent about drawing the line as close as possible to when things become unsafe so CS figures it out and stops subjecting pax to unnecessary danger because scared probies (their fear is MORE THAN justified btw) accept the assignments.
