No it’s not a big deal but that’s not the point is it?

I don’t know how prevalent this is, but I have started seeing reserves that finish in the AM, being ‘turned back’ into 10 hours mid-day rest and starting a late PM RAP. Talk about a circadian swap.
I know it’s contractually legal, but frustrating for those of us who prefer either AM or PM flying.

Or preassigned RAP...
They do what they want and say fly it and grieve it. If they win 50% of the arbitrations then they’re getting contract improvements for management without giving the pilots anything.

I really don’t have the answer as to whether they HAVE to give it to you for your seniority. However, in my brief time on reserve, I was given a next day standby/flight assignment pretty frequently without regard to the current day’s RAP. I got the impression the next day desk didn’t look at current day assignments, just legality. The daily desk didn’t seem to appreciate it much when they tried to call me and I didn’t answer though. YMMV.

The reserve rules are so loose and so conflicted that they essentially can do as they please... which is why they aren’t in any hurry to fix it. They’ve been “working to fix it” or promising to fix it since 2012. Yet the MEC staffing bandaids continued to flow.
Herb & Juan had probably the best rewrite thus far done. When it was posted for 10 days the pilots found every loophole the company had left themselves, and then the company refused to clear up the language closing the loopholes. That LOA, loopholes and all, was still way better than what we had, but on the cusp of a pilot shortage it wasn’t good enough. Now, with bandaids flowing freely, it’s doubtful the next rewrite will be as good.
I’d pull that one out, dust it off, close the loopholes and send it to the company as a last best final offer, and no new deals until it’s signed.
Then stick to it.

Get use to it, AA does the same thing quite often. They just build their lines (red eyes) like this.
