Cadet interview question
I’m doing my cadet HR and technical interviews next week and assuming they go well and I’m offered the position do I have to sign a letter of commitment on the spot?
After following everything going on at Envoy I want to keep my options open and I’m cautious of making a commitment. Thanks. |
Don’t come here.

Are you sure coming here is a good idea? Are you aware that if you come here it will delay pay raises for all of us? Company has tied pay to hiring.

Whatever decision you make, play the long game because this company (and industry) is constantly in flux. If you want AA long-term, or simply want a backup option while you target your pick, it's nice to have flow in your back pocket. If you think you're a flawless wonder kid with a high GPA from the right school, rack of volunteer experience, internal refs, etc., then feel free to roll the dice on getting hired off the street by one of the big three after you get 1000 121 PIC at #SkyBest or wherever. |

Get a 5.5 year flow in writing lol

Do. Not. Come. Here. The cadet program will shackle you to here and you will be completely stuck as you watch all your friends getting mainline jobs way faster than you flow. Seriously. Don’t do it. And don’t believe any recruiters, for anything really.

Cadet Academy | American Airlines So scary I was gonna do the interview just to have another offer in my pocket but if I have to sign a letter of commitment then I’m not really interested. Especially considering all the replies to this thread. |
Bro, REALLY I am not the kind of pilot who hates life and I know no company is perfect.
Recent actions from different envoy members, from gate agents, to scheduling, to chief pilots to management has brought my moral to a new all time low. It is not just about the money really, it’s the kinda thing that you will realize at 2 and a half years at the company and be like “holly shirt... this guys only concern is if I will be at the plane and block out on time.” They do not care where you might sleep a certain night due to things beyond your control. They don’t care what happens to you in a layover. All they care of is on time performance not even passenger satisfaction. It has been so Embarrassing having to tell passengers the reality if they are gonna make it home or not or wether they will be protected. I won’t go into details, just take this advice. Go to a place where people seem happy, you get to be home and has industry leading pay. I am trying my hardest to get out of here, even if we get a pay raise... that is not enough. I want to be seen and treated as a professional pilot. If you can, go Elsewhere. Envoy should be your bottom choice. I mean it, unfortunately. |

I should have mentioned I’m already a CFII. Only a few hundred hours from R-ATP minimums.

Especially considering all the replies to this thread. If you’re that close to ATP mins, you won’t be accepted into the Cadet program. If you’re not a Cadet, it’s likely you’ll end up on the 145 and stuck on reserve for quite a long time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk There was a guy in my class that was a cadet for 3 weeks. They ended up getting the last 175 slot. |
Company has recently posted a vacancy for 60 145 FOs in NY. No one is going to bid those slots. They will be assigned to new hires.
Hope you enjoy flying an obsolete jet in the most challenging weather and airspace in the country, 20 minutes at a time. |

Especially considering all the replies to this thread. Ahh I just have to say this. There is no letter of commitment if you’re joining a partner school. A pipeline school yes. That means you can sign a letter to join the program. What everyone is saying on here about signing a commitment ONLY applies when YOU ACCEPT BONUS MONEY. Not taking sides, just stating a fact. Otherwise until things improve, you know how it is on here for now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think their real angle here is hoping to displace some of the junior 145 FOs into a NFE status, thus avoiding the 3 months of A pass travel and hotels that they'd have to give new hires but not somebody being forced from a different base.

lol I’m still not used to thinking on the level of psychopath the management is on
And if that doesn’t get the noggin joggin, they’re cutting lines by another ~50% in the NY domicile by October according to RW. Maybe the plan is to staff the flying entirely with reserves. |

Despite all the complaining that people love to do, Envoy is a fine place to work. Nowhere is perfect but I've had a good time at Envoy so far. Yes I live in base but I honestly don't have much to complain about.

Is Envoy's Cadet program maybe more attractive? If not, Why should I stay away from Envoy? I used to say there’s a dark side and a light side of coming here depending on the fleet. 175 is the light side, the 145 is the dark side of the coin. HOWEVER, after seeing a few friends get placed in a class with only 145 options, it’s not a polarizing as I once believed. The 145’s scheduled and QOL can be considered to be worse than the 175, but you will get the same crap as the CRJ200 or 145 anywhere else. 4-5 legs days, but some are 1 Ir 2 leg days as well. I so far have NEVER seen more than 5 leg days for the 145 pilots (if someone believes other wise, post the evidence) The 175 is typically 2-3 leg days but it is POSSIBLE to get 5 leg days. No big deal. You also fly to “mainline type markets” such as ATL, EWR, etc. But in my opinion, the 145 pilots have a critical advantage in the ability to upgrade wicked quick with no worry of being displaced. If your on the 175, you will easily learn to play the game and coast your hours to time an upgrade into the 175, especially with the new fleet orders and possibly the pending 20 aircraft from Compass. Despite the typical same complainers we have on here, it’s not a bad place to work and progress your career into the legacies with the flow in your back pocket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
