LGA Reserve in Base from CT?
Howdy!
New Envoy RTP candidate here, signed up and ready to go. Apologies if I say anything stupid or naive--I have not even begun the RTP training yet and I'm still learning the airline vocab/procedures. Living in Connecticut and considering LGA for my base--I'm currently just South of Hartford and wondering if it's realistic to assume I can stand 3 hour reserve from my home here? Google maps shows about a 2 hour and change drive to the employee parking lot, but I know traffic can push this close to 3 hours during rush hour (https://goo.gl/maps/7LVRcBroKKLFEDzw8). Am I being naive to assume that I can stand reserve from my home or is this reasonable? Will there be an issue if there's a catastrophic accident on the Merritt that pushes me over 3 hours or is there a tolerance for these things? Sir, no excuse, sir, or **** happens? Thanks! |
You will most likely receive a missed assignment.

Any idea how long reserve time for Envoy is at LGA these days? |
Assuming everyone who can hold a line bids one, then for August the most junior line holder will be a 2/12/18 hire. So about a year and a half.

Do you happen to know if I drove to LGA whether I would fall under the commuter hotel policies or not? Do I actually have to fly somewhere to be offered commuter benefits? It looks like from my research they offer unlimited hotel stays for NYC commuters for 90 days? I'm not clear if I would qualify for this if I drive into my base. Understand that the reserve time would last over 5 times that long, but it could at least help offset the initial cost... Thanks again for entertaining my amateur questions! |
Driving equals commuting. Your home of record needs to be greater than 50 miles from base to trigger access to commuter hotels in base.

You could easily do reserve from home in Hartford.
I was only an hour away near Bridgeport. You would just have to keep an eye on the traffic on the 95 and if it looks bad maybe drive a little closer and stage yourself from new haven or something. |
