Winters in ORD/Clothing Options
Hello,
I am a new FO based out of ORD. With that in mind which option would be the best when it comes to dealing with rainy/cold winter days? I currently own a wool coat, but that will not be useful when it rains and I need to do a walk around. Would buying “all weather” coat help when it comes to rainy weather? Is M&H the best place to buy this? Also, when it comes to boots, I assume ankle boots would be the best choice? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

Winter apparel is personal preference, as long as it falls within the approved items. Now, you’ll find crews with a wide ranging interpretation of this (lots of guys at XJT would wear north face jackets and consider themselves “out of uniform” and therefore not required to comply with the FOM) but on the ramp, you have the three options not counting blazer. Me personally, I like the leather jacket. It’s warm. It’s durable. It’s quick don/doff. In Canada, yeah I’ll pack gloves and a black scarf for the walk around. I don’t have a lot of hair so you might even see me toting the hat around. I don’t know the rules on knit/wool caps here yet. We didn’t have the all weather at xjt so I’m curious to give it a try. I also have a sweater that I like. I hate being cold. Really just go with what works. As far a footwear, I have black ariat boots with the rubber soles. Boots are all I wear anyway so...... personal preference. |
perrone leather jacket (although it takes a while to order), and some waterproof shoes, lots of companies make them. I have Johnston and murphy leather shoes, and i can walk in 3" of slush and stay dry.

Per the Chief Pilot, when I asked him about beanies for the walkaround, they're ok. "Just don't wear them in the terminal."
