At the moment, there are no CSLOA's on offer.

I think the plan is to offer better CSLOA's. But before they are negotiated, they can't be offered.

The big issue with the last company-subsidized leave of absence is that it required pilots to attend recurrent. While I completely understand the purpose in keeping the pilot on an active status with the company, it's problematic in that if the goal is to allow pilots to pursue other jobs in the interim, they now have competing interests for schedules in order to take time to go through ground school and sims.

Is the only work around for this to go on some sort of inactive, unpaid status (assuming the company offers it)?

RC is only a few days, I think most professionals can work around it.

I think the inactive, unpaid status would be called a furlough ?

Recurrent is two days of ground and three days of sim with a couple days in between. Plus about 25-30 hours of CBTs. No it’s not something most professionals can likely work around. Certainly not readily.

And there are options for inactive, unpaid status than other than a furlough if the company chooses to allow it. It may take an LOA, because it’s my understanding there is not something already in our CBA, but someone more senior should have the option to take a VOLUNTARY leave of absence, even if unpaid, instead of INVOLUNTARY furlough of someone junior. Almost like a proffer to displace, but that may imply an undefined period of time.

Recurrent is a double edged sword. Some pilots credited ~60ish hours for a month of CSLOA through recurrent.

How was that? I was told I would only receive something like 11.7 hours for the sim and nothing for the CBTs. I chose not to take the CSLOA for the month for that reason. Sat on reserve not flying for the month, but still no pay for the CBTs either.

My understanding is that they credited 3.-something hours for each day of the recurrent footprint above guarantee, including travel days, but I am not in this situation so I don’t know the exact details.
