I thought on the Captain side there was recurrent and a line check, each six months apart. Must have gotten confused on something or perhaps calling it something it isnt.

They are each required once a year. Depending on how its scheduled they could end it being six months apart from one another but that isn't a requirement. Just CQ once a year and AR5 once a year.

ok that makes sense, I guess I just assumed they were intentionally spread out at six month intervals.

Unless the company is intentionally rebasing people, most people’s line check would be due a month or two after their recurrent.
Your first recurrent would be 12 months after your upgrade training, and your first line check is done concurrently with your fed ride (so at the completion of IOE).
Obviously people can get rebased for all kinds of reasons.

well you are correct in a away let me correct myself. You have aqp, then no later than 6 months after aqp you have a line check.. then 6 months later you have aqp again and the process begins again. If you fail anything in training you have a 6 month check ride in sim due to special tracking then if all goes well aqp 6 months later.

I know its clear as mud.

Its not "if you fail anything in training". 14-06 lists what you can fail before you get placed into ST:

Yeah, it's that bolded part that I just assumed carried on indefinitely, each occurring every six months flip-flopping each time. Thank you all for clearing that up.

Default Face Masks

So apparently if you don’t wear a face mask in the cockpit while the door is open, the FAs might refuse to give you lav breaks. Always remember, you share part of your PIC authority with the most senior FA.

Just keep the door shut and make them call you.
