Bonus payback ?

So... I took the $30K awhile back and and now have moved on to greener pastures.
I plan to pay back the $30K. How do I get a corrected W-2 from ENVOY?

Asking for a friend

Thanks
k

Hey, I did the same thing. I left in early June and didn't hear from them for months. You will get a letter with an owed amount around $21k depending on state taxes. I wrote them a check and moved on. I have heard from people that you can ask for a payment plan.

Did yours have a date for the repayment?

Good luck getting out of paying taxes based on the original distribution, unless they'll garnish your remaining checks.

???

Taxes don't apply to bonuses you return. It's just paperwork.

Is the bonus pro-rated? Say you leave in 12 months, do you only owe 50% back?

Ravenwing 02-06-2023 05:32 PM

I was told during logbook review that the 2 year $100k bonus is not pro-rated and that the company will most likely come after the whole amount unless you go to American even though taxes were withheld. You don’t have to sign the bonus contract. The pay is good anyway.

Republic offers a staggered bonus with no payback clause; last I saw it was 30k after DEC IOE, 30k after a year, etc.

Yeah, always take the bonus. If you think you might leave, put it in an account that brings interest*. If you do leave, pay it back and file for a refund of what was was withheld on your behalf.

121 experience as FE?

All of my part 121 experience was on the 727 panel. Would they count that for the bonus?

Ravenwing 02-11-2023 11:55 AM

Take a look at 14 CFR 121.436 which spells out the requirements for upgrading under Part 121. That is the time they want to see to get the bonus.

I plan on moving on to a major as soon as I can. I meet requirements at everyone ive applied to. If I leave just after a year of service is the original 10K from completion of IOE owed back? I know the 5K for one year of service is going to be owed back. Thanks.

I don’t know what contract you signed but mine was the inverse of the above. You had to pay back the prorated amount of the 10k and there was no strings attached to the 1st year 5k bonus.

What about the 100k bonus if you have previous 121 time? Does that have to be paid back if one leaves after a week of GS? (Daddy needs a new plane)

The bonus must be paid back if you leave within 24 months. Rumor is the latest version is prorated if you leave 13-24 months after completing IOE.

well that sucks.

My NHB signed in early 2022 was not pro-rated.

I am in the process of figuring out a payment plan with them.

The requested amount is NET bonus less taxes.

You are correct !

Lesavions 05-14-2024 05:31 AM

From my experience, I received an automated past due notice about 3 months after I left. I followed up with accounts receivables and waited another 3 months while they confirmed the amount. Once it was confirmed, I wrote a check for the amount less what was withheld in taxes. They're estimating 8 weeks on a corrected W2. That's been with follow-up emails and check ins every 1-2 weeks.

I would hold the money in high-interest savings, and if you do leave, reach out sooner rather than later to start the process. envoy.receivables at aa.com
