December 14th Onboarding/Orientation

Hello i am in the December 14th orientation, was wondering if anyone new how many DEC there are in it and if there has been anyword on a class date.

DMH1967 11-28-2023 08:37 AM

If orientation is Dec 14th, you'll be running right up on the holidays, so that's a good question. We started last year on Nov 3, and were sent home for time between Christmas and New Year's . I'd suspect starting early Jan, but they may do something like keep some of you around for Indoc right after orientation, then send you home for the holiday break.

VicksCool 11-28-2023 07:28 PM

hey Thanks for the reply, you could be right .

NAC 2 OVHT 11-28-2023 09:10 PM

I am in the class too, DEC, but haven't heard anything either. Just completed the logbook paperwork and pay info.

VicksCool 11-29-2023 07:07 AM

Same here I just did the iCims online paperwork yesterday,

Were you in the October 27th event in DFW?

TeamGreenPilot 11-29-2023 12:02 PM

That is the million dollar question (well... $100,000) I've been asking them for weeks now, finally go the iCims yesterday and sent another question and got a response of "we'll have class dates available on the 14th".....

Honestly the worst communication from an operation I've ever seen. Don't know if they're swamped now or short or what.....

VicksCool 11-29-2023 01:01 PM

I can only imagine with all the people they are dealing with getting all setup and probably dealing with a previous group as well that they are swamped. I heard its inthe neighborhood of 50 in the Dec. 14 th orientation.

NAC 2 OVHT 11-29-2023 06:51 PM

No, I wasn't at the 10/27 event, applied in September on their website and did my logbook review 10/04. Got the job offer late October. 50 is going to be pretty full. Wonder how class bidding with a mix of captains and first officers?

There is no bidding for class dates. That is assigned by the company. Base and Sim bidding takes place once in class. Cadets were senior to DECs. I think it was based on longevity/experience after that but don't quote me.

DMH1967 11-30-2023 12:26 PM

We had 15 cadets, and 50 DECs in our class. They split it up, staggering everyone by seniority into 3 groups each separated by 2 weeks. Bidding will be done on day one of Indoc, where you'll state what base and seat you want. DECs are expected to bid CA, but they can bid FO if they want...however they'll still be trained as CAs, checked out as CAs, expected to perform within the training enviornment to CA standards. They'll also get a reduced pay amount during training if they bid FO (standard training pay, vs I believe 70 hours CA pay if they bid CA.) They'll assign seniority at Orientation, and let you know when you'll be coming back. If the FOs in the class are Cadets, they get seniority ahead of the DECs, but it only impacts sim time bids during training. Once out of training, even though the FOs may be senior, they'll still be bidding on the FO list, while DECs bid on the CA list.

Hey DMH thanks for the great info, What was your orientation date and subsequent class date ? Not sure what you mean with this sentence " They split it up, staggering everyone by senority into 3 grouops each seperated by 2 weeks."

Ravenwing 12-01-2023 10:08 AM

Hi, I had a March 7th Orientation and an April 3rd Indoc as a DEC. Envoy typically has an Indoc every two weeks on a Monday but the holidays may cause them to skip weeks. They will tell you what Indoc to expect in Orientation based on your class seniority. Indoc classes are typically much smaller than Orientations. Class seniority is assigned by cadets date of entry, then total Part 121 hours highest to lowest, then oldest to youngest for everyone else. Orientation is all about onboarding paperwork. Signing bonuses are handed out. I recommend collecting phone numbers of your classmates and starting a WhatsApp thread. Envoy tends to push DECs through training faster than FOs. Our class of DECs was not given the option of bidding FO. You will receive EFBs and IDs in Indoc.

Summed it up very well.

Our class was 65 people, everyone given an official start date at Orientation, Nov 3. They sent us home after that, with the first group of us (the most senior third of the class) returning the following Monday for day 1 of Indoc. The 2nd third of the class came back 2 weeks after we started our Orientation; the last third of the class came back 2 weeks after those guys. They do that to stagger the sim times so there is ample schedule availability to get people right through. Again, holidays coming into the middle of this, could spread it out further.

VicksCool 12-01-2023 03:14 PM

Thanks Guys, DMH1967 are you a DEC or F/O ?

I'm a DEC. Retired early from my previous carrier in Feb last year, found out retirment was a lot more boring than anything else, so I came back to Envoy where I'd been from '94 - '06.

Thanks DMH, I was curious how the process worked having FOs and DECs together. I am getting back into flying after a 6 1/2 year break due to how bleak the industry was getting.

It's a whole different world now. No idea how long this will last, but guys are rocketing through a few months at the regionals and getting hired by the majors. I have buddies at several majors who have told me they're flying with pilots who just got the restricted ATP cleared. I think I've moved up 400 numbers in a year, at least according to the seniority list in the contract.

Ravenwing 12-03-2023 07:04 PM

My Indoc class in April had 18 DECs and 2 FOs, but when we got to systems we had 18 DECs and 8 FOs bidding for sims together. We had 5 CA/CA teams and 8 CA/FO teams. The group a week ahead of us were all FO/FO teams. I was paired with another captain and we switched seats halfway through each lesson and alternated being first. You get right seat qualified during training as a DEC anyway. There's no way of predicting how sim pairings will work out in your class.

Ground training is the same for captains and FOs except captains get an extra two days of ground on the duties and responsibilities of captains. They want everyone to learn both captain and FO flows. Captains are held to higher standards in the sim.

How did they do Senority in the DEC group, was it by total hours in FAR 121air carriers or was it by years flying in FAR 121 air carriers.
I have heard both, would like to know which one its is.

Thanks

When I was there for my CJO orientation/logbook check/UA in the spring I was told by the training captain there talking to us it was years online at a 121 carrier but then I started hearing later on it was based on hours....

I'm kinda curious to see how this plays out...I'm in a weird greyzone, I was CJO'd as a DEC (3,500+ FAR 121 hours....) but I have to do the ATP-CTP course... my 121 hours came from before the regulatory change....I'm a ATP-SE cert holder with ME COM, and since there's no such thing as an add on ME ATP anymore I have to spend a week in the box/CTP class at somepoint too.....

Total Part 121 hours.

VicksCool 12-04-2023 10:41 AM

Ok, so hours in 121 for DEC senority and Years in 121 for DEC pay Longevity.

It's been crazy watching all these changes in pilot pay and bennies from the sidelines. I managed to stay in aviation as a simulator instructor but my experience means squat when I applied to the majors this last summer.

email question

I was called and was given the December 14 on boarding date. I have not received any further communication (i.e., no email) regarding travel, etc. Has anybody else received an email follow up for the 14th?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Seems like they’re grinding thru emails.

Yesterday received the I-9 passport request and then the “new hire bidding sheet” email (again…5th time)…

Today received the DEC bonus contract/promissory note for signature (Return by 8 DEC)

Nothing yet confirming travel but I gave them my city pairings a couple weeks ago for the 13th of December travel

VicksCool 12-05-2023 11:03 AM

Yes same here received several emails requesting different things, todays was the DEC Letter of Agreement as TEAMGREENPILOT mentioned.

Haven't received any travel or hotel instructions, they did request many days ago travel City and Polo shirt size.

Hope this helps.

gomissedagain 12-05-2023 11:31 AM

Has anyone heard if they are going to extend the FO/DEC pay/bonus programs past December 31st?

VicksCool 12-05-2023 12:50 PM

Have not heard ?
