Bases for DEC / CA

Greetings,

I know that a DEC is likley going to ORD or NYC and will be on reserve for quite a long time.
How long is it currently taking for a CA to hold MIA? (Anyone have the most junior hire date for MIA CA)?

NYC is not a base for ENY. Currently, CA shortage seems mostly in ORD and PHX. DFW is quick to hold, MIA take 9-12 month (I replied on other thread).

Yikers. My brain was saying DFW but my fingers were typing NYC... Anyhoo, thank you for the insight.

The most junior person awarded MIA CA has an April 2023 hire date. I hear DECs are mostly given ORD in Indoc, FOs usually get a choice of DFW, ORD, or PHX.

Vacancy awards are run every 3 months per the contract unless the company feels a need to run one sooner. The next vacancy award is expected to be run the first week of April. Many pilots are awarded a new base prior to finishing IOE or shortly thereafter. 4 captains were awarded TDY in PHX for March.

Actually the last DOH in MIA, according to ALPA's seniority list, is APR23. But if you look at the Reserve list, FEB23 is the last guy in MIA.... Not exactly sure how that works!

According to the flow plan, the most junior pilots awarded Miami captain were FOs who haven't finished training yet. They will land on the reserve list when they finish upgrade training and IOE. They must have been hired as high time FOs.

Ahhh that would make sense! Either way, Miami looks like a dizzying wait for any QOL...

Out of curiosity, are you able to drop trips or RAP days in DFW?

I can't hold a line in DFW but I can easily drop and swap reserve days. I dropped 3 reserve days this month for QOL and an appointment. I have definitely covered flying as a reserve pilot that other captains have dropped. They are usually dropping a round trip or the last overnight but sometimes they drop a short trip. On bad weather days they use the whole reserve list, but they are well staffed in DFW for normal conditions.

QOL in Miami probably comes faster for FOs. It's definitely senior for captains, but if you lived in driving distance it would be worth it.

Thanks for that!
