Question for ALL eagle/envoy guys and gals
There has been a lot of talk in the American forum about new hires at mainline. It sounds as though envoy will be 50% of our new pilots. I curious as to the attitude/outlook of these guys. I have been at AA less than five years but have been VERY impressed with all of our newhires. Everyone is engaged, active and interested in changing things for the better. Most of us hired in the last 7 years are "confused" about the senior guys at legacy American.
My question: Are the legacy eagle guys and gals positive in the outlook for this airline going forward? Are they planning on being a united group at the new airline? There's a growing contingent at American that is looking out for all our pilots (something that seems to have been lost at AA for a long time). There are TONS of retirements in the next 10 years. I think a lot of us are wondering how the main group coming over here looks at things. What do you think of your pilot group? |
You mean US Air in American dress...

And in three posts... The death of unity.

I can't for say for envoy but it's the psa/pdt guys you're gonna need to keep your eye on. Just going off the first two posts

Personally I'm interested in changing things for the better. However, envoy is absolutely making jaded. We're at an all-time low in employee/management relations over here and it's hard to believe that things will substantially improve over at AA. The common factor is the Parker takeover of AA. I believe that they like to say they're making positive changes when it comes to press releases, town hall meetings, etc. but have no intent on actually making those positive changes. I think that people need to start publicially speaking up about how AA treats its employees (including it's wholly owned subsideraries) because if they don't the current AA management will do nothing but walk all over them.

Thanks eagle. I think a huge majority of you guys (As well as a whole lot of us) have been beat up at the regional level. The culture has taken a down turn since the merger. I think having had that past will make us more conscious voters. I tend to ***** about the things we have lost. On the whole life is a thousand times better here. The flows from our WO I have met seem like stand up people. I hope we are able to shed the past both here and what WO'ed have experienced. I looked at the retirements recently. You guys will be running the show here soon. Hope we all stick together.

My hope is that the flows have a better handle on SCOPE when Parker comes sniffing around for it in a few years. The flows have seen what eroding SCOPE has done to the industry as far as stagnation, and it has been one of the main contributors to the lost decade. It is my hope that living through that will make a lot of voters much more cautious when it comes to seeing dollar signs over airframe size.

I would say that 911, the resession, and the age 65 retirement change were the main contributors to the lost decade

I'm at PDT, and I am pretty optimistic about the future. Steve Farrow has been cast out and replaced by an ex-US Airways management guy, Lyle Hogg, as well as a handful of other management positions. That to me, shows that they have a genuine interest in seeing Piedmont succeed by appointing the right people to the right positions to help us grow away from the "old piedmont" way of doing things. More importantly are the recent pay raises we have seen at the WO level after Kirby's departure. I think they realize the iron fist they were trying to rule with is unsustainable long term opposed to a positive cradle to grave approach. Slowly but surely, our problems are finding solutions. Time will tell and I could certainly be wrong, but these changes have painted a much different picture to what was once a bleak and unbelievable light at the end of the tunnel (flow). What I would like to see, and what I believe would really demonstrate how caring AA is, is a future for our ALPA brothers and sisters at AWAC. What's happening there is heartbreaking and they deserve better after continued years of service. Give them more money to recruit pilots, extend their CPA, a larger aircraft that'll remain around for a longer time, buy them and make them a WO, do SOMETHING FFS. |
There's a lot of griping over on the other side of the fence. They are getting beat up on reserve, getting turned back, getting paid incorrectly, etc. all the same stuff we're dealing with here at ENY. The Parker Effect is happening there, too.

When you say things like employee/management relations are so bad it's making you jaded, it's usually the fault of the person in the mirror. I would suggest you consider adjusting your attitude to be more positive. After all, you'll be flowing to AA in under 6 years if you are a new hire today.
All the stuff listed above is happening as well as wrongful terminations as an intimidation tactic. But yea, it's definitely the pilot's fault. |
AA is the Mesa of the Regionals. Me and my buds are eyeing Delta, United when we get competitive soon.
