Italy

Hey guys…wife and I are making a trip to Italy mid May. Thought about the walking tour of Tuscany. But then again it was quite expensive and thought we could do as well on our own.

Was talking with a guy and he told me about car rentals through Lufthansa or some other legacy Euro carries. Additionally, he said something about staying in Holiday Inns via a crew rate…better quality than the ones in the States. Of course all of this went in one ear and out the other at the time.

Can anyone throw a bone? Or any ideas about an Italian vacation? Went to Rome for 8 days after spending 5 years in Dubai and didn't feel the need to go anywhere else. But it's again time to explore.

Thanks, Grizz

Renting a car in italy is only advised if you plan on staying in small towns in the countryside or visiting Sicily. If you want to see Florence , Rome, Venice, Cinque Terre and the other main cities trains and buses are much better. Parking is tough, gas is expensive. Surf through ricksteves.com lots of info there. Bon Viagio!

If you get a chance I highly recommend the Amalfi Coast! The wife and I went down there a few years ago. Flew into Rome, took the train down to Salerno, and then a bus to Atrani. Many little towns along the road worth seeing. Positano, Ravello, Almalfi. A lot of beautiful hikes, great views, and great food. We stayed in a hostel that was pretty nice and a good price.
