All I hear is lineholdets at XJT complaining about low value lines. I think there’s a lot of spare capacity labor here and I’m not sure why we aren’t using it efficiently.

Primarily CRJ, but I hear some of that from the ERJ guys too.

I’m sure that’ll change soon enough but why is that happening is beyond me....

I don’t know if it has changed since I left in October, but they were very inefficient. Noncommutable lines worth 60 odd hours with 12 days off. As a senior captain. Barf. But then they keep putting out red flag messages, like anyone can pick up trips when they start out the month with 12 days off and are down to 9 or 10 commuting. What a joke.

Well....they have to pay everybody a guarantee of 75 hours. If they made lines that exceeded that, it just means they pay more. Spread out the suck, and it’s cheaper. Plus....making the super senior guys want to leave is a money-saver, also. Win-win. When it’s time to turn things around, the fewer guys at the top of the pay scale the better. At least that’s what it seems is their thinking.

Apparently we’re getting a CRJ base in Houston now.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the lines are gonna be equally awesome to the ORD base.

Yep. CRJ IAH base opening in May 2019.

I wonder if that’s a displacement from the ORD base or if they will be adding more aircraft and training more pilots....

Several folks have told me that “you can fly 85-95 hours per month as an FO out of EWR”

Is this true and easily possible while taking min days off for someone living in domicile?

Yes. Blackhawk’s complaints are isolated to the ORD CRJ base.

The trips have become a lot less productive over the years but it is still possible. Looking at the EWR FO reserve schedules, the credit hours for last month ranged from 67 to a high of 94.
