Default When will we see something definitive?

So I am at a position where I need to move on from part 135. Been flying turbo prop for a while and now have more than 500 multi TPIC.

In the same boat as a bunch of us trying to advance, qualified but can't afford to wait for class date at E9 or RAH (and not assuming they will definitely hire me, but I do have what seems like a pretty good shot. If only they were not so backed up with training and stuff...)

People I kind of know at XJET (friends of friends) said so far no official communication from management yet about what direction this is moving. Still losing pilots and have not gotten caught up yet in term of hiring. There is definitely potential, but we can't seem to do much beyond making educated guesses...or so it seems.

They are planning on hiring more and are aiming for growth but I would like to see something more definitive. I heard the pilot group is great despite suffering low morale in the last couple years and the training department is awesome. If only I could see some real movement I would come over.

Do you think there will be an answer by the end of Q1? Does anybody know anything more yet? XJET may really be the next best thing....but really, I wish I knew more or I wish something was actually happening. Even like, just a class of 10 upgrading in February.....sigh

Thanks

XJT definitely has E175s coming. There are upgrades happening right now. Upgrade time will continue to drop.

I will not make any predictions of timeframe. If you get to XJT now, you should be ahead of the upcoming wave.

The change of ownership just occurred so I suspect it will be a bit before we begin to see the strategic plan.

On the line, we all know there are only two ways to fix the hiring/retention issues. On my flight decks, we talk about it all the time. The path Mana and UAL take will determine our future success.

I’d definitely expect more news by the end of Q1. With recent acquisitions, you typically get a flurry of news in the first couple of months.

But what exactly, I don’t know. Some of these will be less exciting stuff like leadership changes.

As far as upgrades. I do believe these upgrades are sort of the way ASA did it before. There was no need to upgrade but they put you through training to be a captain. Since most on this list are senior FOs who have a really good schedule, you are now a junior captain on reserve that the company uses in the right seat primarily.

Genius concept for the company. Show an upgrade time going down and get a schedule hogging senior FO back on reserve. Note all upgrades were on the 200. Which seat locks all these senior FOs and prevents them from occupying a 175 seat. Which also lets the 175 go junior appealing to new hires. Smoke and mirrors?

If the company has a net loss of first officers how does the math work to upgrade 30 or so captains?

Most captains who got awarded the 175 were LASA guys. Hence the need for more 200 captains.

Those FOs who were also captain qualified have no choice but to bid captain, or else they lose captain pay. Not that they’re complaining, those guys are working hard to get PIC time and make a move.

I don’t believe they’re seat locked, either.

Most of those LASA guys were on the 700 just out of DFW. Nice little break for them I suppose. Everyone on the list that was awarded ORD 200 CA is also on the Equip freeze list that came out right after. Assuming this was to lock them out of the 175 to allow for more junior movement to that aircraft. And yes, mostly everyone awarded ORD 200 were FOs being paid as CA. Just hoping that they actually use everyone as CA and not just a reserve FO.

Looking at that list, the CRJ captain awards went senior to the 175 FO awards.

Exactly. Opened up vacancies for junior FOs. Senior FOs were forced to bid 200 CA in order to maintain CA pay from when they were displaced off the 700. Is what it is.

This is completely incorrect. CRJ FO’s who upgraded to CRJ CA are not locked. Refer to your CBA.

Per the company. Also, see the award versus the freeze list.

[All,
As you normally don’t see freeze lists, per the CBA, we will have to implement a category freeze on pilots beginning with System Bid 18-11 to help support our new E175 launch in June. With the limited resources of E175 sim slots and the number of aircraft launching in June, we want to ensure a successful launch of our new fleet. The freeze date on the list is an 18 month freeze, however, there are situations where the freeze may be broken as well as the company may waive future freezes. For more information, please refer to Section 9 of the CBA.
