Default 200% Open Time

Just announced for open time picked up over 80 hours...

I'd much rather see it for all open time or a lower hour threshold, but it's a start. Those living in base will likely stand to benefit the most.

Senior FOs in base can do the following?

Schedule reserve for the first 15 days of the month, list "Do not fly if possible", get paid min guarantee of 75 hours.

In remaining 15 days, pick up open time at 200%, with productive trips totaling 75 hours flying, 150 hours credit.

End result, credit 225 hours. Is this possible?

You can’t sit reserve more than 6 days in a row. That’s a legal limitation. Six days is max, then you need 30 hours of rest.

You only get 11 or 12 days off when on reserve per month. This is likely true at any airline.

Example of what you could do, assuming a 30 day month:

Days 1-6 reserve
Day 7 off
Days 8-13 reserve
Day 14 off
Days 15-20 reserve
Days 21-29 off
Day 30 reserve (hopefully you’ll be on reserve days 1-5 of the following month so you don’t have to have a single day on reserve)

The above is legal but not very likely.

If you have over 80 hours of credit for March with your original line credit, you just get normal pay. Doesn’t that incentivize pilots to call in sick to drop below 80 hours and then pick up flying on their days off?

The 200% is paid for any open time picked up in addition to 80 hours "performing company business." Sick credit won't count for the 80 hours required to receive the 200%.

And you can’t do split reserve/line holder months. Or has that changed?

Nope can’t do it. If anyone wants to bid down. Please do. Come enjoy the pain of reserve.

I guess crews agree with the old saying about polishing a turd and still leaving?
