Yup, I monitored that solid line of t-storms/rain on FF yesterday as it was making its way eastward across TX & LA . . . one can see in FlightAware/FlightRadar24 that some airlines got very creative with the roundabout routing well to the north of TX through AR & OK for the westbound flights from the Southeast states into IAH that they were able to salvage . . . it was a rather narrow t-storm line but it sure as heck was a lightning generator!

It did look nasty, also know that express is running thin on pilots so if anyone got stuck out it would start stacking real fast

32 flights today cancelled due to no crew. Almost 100 this past 3 days. I can see a holiday. But a Tuesday. What did I miss?

Short term.....sure, that’s great. But the message they need to get is to staff the operation. 200% of nothing is always gonna be nothing.

Part of this equation that is rarely mentioned here : the amount of flights issued by united for Expressjet to cover. They knowingly continuously assign many more flights than Expressjet can staff or recommends assigning. They assign it anyway knowing full well a good number will be cancelled.
Also, Expressjet cancels flights well in advance because of crew and this reason. It's not like the company is expecting to staff the flight, and then the day of, the pilots walked out and now the company is failing.

So if United knows it, why do they keep assigning more than Expressjet can handle at the moment?.

Erj135dude, It's what airline management does. They're hoping that the pilots will pick up the open time. I've been called every day this month on my off day to tell me their are trips at 150%.

Sounds like XJT is a bit like Mesa a few years ago with their constant OT opportunities. Lots of money to be made at XJT hourly rate and 150%.
